Hey, did you check if the "automatic ear detection" is switched on in the AirPods settings?

Hey. Yes it’s on. Works well for Apple Music and YouTube but not Spotify

Hmm then I don't know... Is all your software updated to the latest version?

Indeed it is. Do you think coz of iOS 11?

Can't imagine that... I'm using iOS 10.3.3 (which should be the latest version available) and everything works fine, also the pause via ear detection feature.

Thanks man. Will do another check

If your using the ios 11 beta, certain features may be unstable so maybe it's just a bug. Did you unistall/reinstall the app? Or try rebooting your iphone? Usually these fix any problems you may have.

Thanks guys this has been very helpful. It’s now working fine. Cheers

Hey, my Airpods functionality has gotten significantly worse for Spotify than last month.

Now, whenever I remove my earpods it'll pause Spotify, but when I put them back in it'll start playing a random Apple Music playlist, it's super annoying.

Also, whenever I double tap an Airpod to change track it doesn't work, it'll again start playing a random Apple Music playlist.

  • I don't have an Apple Music subsription
  • I deleted Apple Music (makes no difference)
  • The Music part of Control Centre doesn't work for Spotify

Is this a bug in my Spotify app?

It seems absolutely ridiculous if Apple Music is doing this on purpose, it's basically forcing me to ditch Spotify so I can only use Airpods with Apple Music!

Mine are working just fine with Spotify. All functionality as it should be. Could be your Spotify app. Delete it and re install. Maybe it will fix the bug

Having the same exact issue when I take out an AirPod it pauses the music from Spotify and when I put it back in it’ll start playing a song from my music library open though the app isn’t open.

I had this issue after updating to iOS 11 and with each update to iOS it’s not getting well.

The issues i have discussed with Spotfy and Apple support (no solution yet);

  • When i’m listening to music with my Airpods Spotify doesn’t respond to my double taps. This is not always happening but i can understand when it’ll happen. If you don’t see a Spotify widget o your lockscreen, you will not be able to control Spotify with Airpod double taps.
  • Double tapping stops Spotify and starts Apple Music.

This issue started just after iOS 11 update. If Apple or Spotify can solve the widget problem, the double tapping issues will be solved in my opinion.

I had the same issue, yet when i did a hard-reboot to my phone, everything got fixed.

(Hold wake/sleep + volume down until it restarts)

hope that helps.

literaly just tried your method as I was having the same problem as OP. Worked first go. Before it had the same problem. I would take out one air pod... music would keep playing...put it back in (ear)... stops spotify and plays apple music. Everything is upto date. Just a glitch 🙂 Good stuff.

I had the same problem. I closed the Music app from apple and just opened the spotify app and then it worked again and the problem was fixed.. So if you have both music apps opened it will play when you take it out. Sorry for my english.
