My Question or Issue

My Spotify app constantly closes as soon as I go to another app, or lock my phone screen. When I’m on the app, it’s constantly freezing so I have to restart, and often my phone becomes insanely hot when I’m using Spotify! All app and software are up to date and I’ve tried all the usual fixes. Nothing has worked so far and it’s making listening to podcasts very frustrating!

Hey @Eturnbull1578,

Thanks for reaching out!

The described behaviour is quite odd.
Is it only observed when using Spotify?

If yes, I'd recommend wiping all Spotify-related files from the device and installing it anew to see if that would make a difference.
To do so, make sure to follow these exact steps.
In case this happens with other apps as well, it might be a good idea to contact Apple instead.

Keep us posted on how things go 🙂

I have had the exact same issue for the last few weeks on my iPhone 13 mini that has been getting acutely worse.  I have completely deleted and reinstalled spotify and same issue.  Using Spotify immediately makes my phone overheat and then closes spotify with no message on the phone.  It used to be more intermittent but now it happens within a couple minutes of playing music or a podcast on spotify.

Hey @fix_shuffle,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

Just to be on the same page, have you tryed the troubleshooting steps mentioned by @Vasil in the previous post?

If so and the issue persists, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

My aunt’s phone started overheating and being extremely slow every time she opens spotify. It gets hot within 1 minute. After doing all the online solutions, none of them work. The weird thing is that when she changed to a new different account without the premium plan, the app started working normally and the overheating stopped, which makes no sense.

Hey folks!

Could you try creating a free test account to see if the described behaviour by @j_gtz_f can be replicated?
If this behaviour only happens with some specific accounts, it might mean it's either account-related or related to a common library denominator within those accounts.
In any case - it would be very beneficial to know if this behaviour ceases with a different account with no library items.

And aside from this, for anyone who hasn't shared those, we'd also need your:

  • Device model and its OS version
  • Your Spotify app version

Many thanks in advance! Hopefully we'll soon get to the bottom of this.

After the latest update, my iPhone 14 Pro Max has started doing this.

Currently running iOS 17.6.1 and Spotify 8.9.82.628. Monitoring it with a IR thermometer it spikes from ambient of about 23 to over 45 in a few minutes then crashes out.

Have performed a full removal and reinstall from the steps listed in the above and no change. This only started happening from the latest update a week or so ago.

Hey @BlueSkyOffroad,

Thanks for alerting us of your issue!
It seems your case is currently isolated, so I'm suggesting that we do some digging first 🙂

Have you tried logging with someone else's account (or a new free account for testing purposes) on your device to see if the same behaviour is observed? If not I'd suggest this as a first step as that way we'll know if this is an account-related issue.

We'd also like to know if what you've described happens when the music is played via the phone itself or an additional Bluetooth/ Connect speaker.

Lastly, we'd like to know if the same issue is observed when your app is offline.
Save some tunes for offline listening and put your app into offline mode. Switch your iPhone to airplane mode and test once more.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your response 🙌🏼

Hi Vasil

I did a few things however the only thing that worked was creating a new account. Seems to be a corrupted registry or library file linked to my account.

I updated my iPhone to iOS 18.1 and still overheated and crashed. Only after creating a new account did it stop.
