My Question or Issue

I have some local songs that do not play in my mobile devices, but they do play on my PC. Only certain songs do this, I have other local songs that play on my local device

Video: Both songs are local files

Hey @ikari,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community.

Could you give the steps here a go and perform a clean reinstall of the app on both devices?  They are more thorough than a regular reinstall and make sure that no corrupted files remain, which might be the reason for such behavior. You should also remove all playlists with imported files and start the whole process from scratch using the instructions in this guide. It's a good idea this time to do it over another internet connection, e.g. a mobile hotspot, if that's an option.

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hey Mihail,

Thank you for you reply, I have done a clean reinstall, and have redone the process for adding local files. However, the issue still persists. I have tried adding another song to see if it will do the same, and it did exactly that.

Hey @ikari,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

Can you let us know the format of the files that aren't playing?

Additionally, was it possible to do the process using a different connection?

Keep us in the loop.

Hey CarlosE,

All my local files are .mp3 files. For your follow up question, yes, and I have tried doing so, but it still did not work.

Hi there @ikari,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Another useful step is to change the source folder of the local files on the pc. The steps are: Uninstall Spotify on both devices > create a new folder somewhere else on the pc and move the local files there > install Spotify again > remove any potential source folders and add the new one > download the playlist again.

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Hello Jeremy,

I did what you recommended for me to do, however the issue still persists.

Hey @ikari

Thanks for getting back to us.

We'd recommend checking if the OS of your devices has any pending updates.

Also, sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your devices would come in handy.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi Eni,

There was a OS update, but even after the update the issue still persists.

I use an iPhone 6, and my spotify version is 8.6.68.1328

Hi @ikari,

Thanks for the post.

Could you try the following:

  1. Start Spotify on your Computer and play one of the songs, that don't work on your phone.
  2. Turn of Spotify Connect and choose the phone as a playback device.
  3. Let us know if the song plays that way and if it appeares grayed out/ unavailable in any way.

Keep us posted.

Hey Alex,

I did what you told me to do, but it did not play nor show in grey text. Instead it did what was shown in the video in the original post.

Hi @ikari,

Thank you for your reply.

Could you confirm from which source you got these files that can't be played?

We'll be on the lookout.

Hey MafG,
I got these songs from youtube videos converted into mp3 files

Hey @ikari,

Thanks for the reply.

Files or downloads from illegal sources are not permitted and we can't guarantee that the app would work as expectd with such files.

Cheers.
