My Question or Issue
Is it possible to disable volume syncing between devices?
The iOS Spotify app hijacks the volume control and set the volume to 100% when I am listening on desktop and I open the app on my phone.
If I’m playing something in the background on my phone, Spotify still sets the volume to 100% on my phone. Who thought this is a good idea?
The “Devices Lock Screen” setting under “Settings > Devices” does not help because it only disables volume syncing outside of the app.
It’s only a matter of time until someone gets hearing damage because of this bug.
Scenario:
Please let me know if there’s a way to disable it completely. This is a legitimate health hazard.
Hey @DerekL1,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
It is currently not possible to remove the volume sync between devices, but there is an idea on this you can vote on. Once it reaches a certain amount of votes, we'll relay it to the respective team for review. Here is a link to it.
Hope this clears things a bit,
Cheers!
Thanks. Unfortunately it seems that the linked post is closed and can’t be voted on. This is mostly a health concern rather than a “good to have” feature idea though. I can also leave a comment in that thread if it helps.
Hey @DerekL1,
Thanks for getting back to us!
As mentioned by @Dian it's how the app is build and in the moment there is no way to control the synching between devices.
We understand you’d like to see this feature available though. What you can do is to go ahead and submit a new Idea in our Idea Exchange Board. Please make sure to stick with Idea Exchange Guidelines and when an idea gets the necessary amount of votes it will be forwarded to the Spotify Staff that could look into it.
Here you can read more on how ideas work.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.
Thank you, I have submitted it as a new idea. Hopefully it can gain enough traction.
Hi,
A temporary workaround is to lof out of your device.
I use spotify on my macbook and iphone. When both devices are on the same wifi, the volume and the information about the device playing are synced. The main reason I am writing this is that when I turn the volume of the spotify app on my macbook to max, the volume on my iphone is also set to max. This caused me a lot of trouble... When I delete the device in the window where I can choose to play to another device, the deleted device is restored soon.
TL;DR Please tell me how to prevent the two devices connecting same wifi from syncing...
