My Question or Issue

Been a long time Spotify User with a premium family plan. I have a google home device my daughter uses in her bedroom and every time she tells it to play music it will change the music currently playing on my phone to what she is playing in her room. The other devices connected don't do this.  Been battling this every summer when i try to listen to music while at work and my kids are home trying to play music at home. I purposely bought the family plan years ago to fix the issue but it still persists.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where the music playing on your phone changes when your daughter uses the Google Home device in her bedroom. This can be frustrating, especially when you're trying to listen to music at work. Here are a few suggestions to help resolve this problem:

  • Check the Google Home settings: Ensure that the Google Home device in your daughter's bedroom is set up with her own Google account. Each user should have their own account linked to their respective devices to avoid interference with other devices on the same network.

  • Verify the Spotify settings: Make sure that each family member is using their individual Spotify accounts on their respective devices. Open the Spotify app on your daughter's Google Home device and ensure it is signed in with her Spotify account. Similarly, double-check that your phone is logged in with your own Spotify account.

  • Use Spotify Connect: Utilize the Spotify Connect feature to control playback on different devices independently. Open the Spotify app on your phone while your daughter is using the Google Home device. Tap on the "Devices Available" or "Connect to a Device" button (usually located at the bottom of the playback screen) and select your desired device (e.g., your phone) from the list. This way, you can ensure that the music on your phone doesn't get interrupted by your daughter's commands.

  • Adjust default playback device: In the Google Home app, go to the device settings for your daughter's Google Home device. Look for an option to set the default playback device. Ensure that it's set to the Google Home device itself, so that when your daughter gives a command, it won't change the playback on other devices, including your phone.

I hope these suggestions help resolve the issue and allow you to enjoy uninterrupted music playback.

Don't leave me in the doghouse, keep me informed on your situation.
