The latest update (8.8.28.416) broke the fast forward/rewind buttons when holding down the forward/back arrows, making it impossible to use this on CarPlay/in the car. Why was this removed?! Add it back please! Makes Spotify unusable to me!
Solved! Go to Solution.
Great News! It looks like they fixed it in the most recent update released this morning (8.8.30).
Im having the same issue. Doesn’t matter if I try holding the buttons down, using my headphones, etc. Tried restarting my phone, clearing the cache, deleting and redownloading my playlist, etc. Nothing worked. Really hope Spotify fixes this ASAP.
I reached out to Spotify and sounds like they are aware of this but they did not make it sound like it was a bug. I do not see how removing basic functionality and breaking millions of phones controls in cars is a feature. Looks like I am going to have to switch to Apple Music for now as this makes Spotify useless to me, I am a big rewinder in the car!
Hi
I also use a lot of rewinding and fast-forward when I am in the car. I never before about changing the part that I wanted to hear by using the phone; it was always the controls in the Car. Without this function, is odd and really upsets me because I have always done this. Apple Music still does that rewind (I don't know if you can change the time or something because I do not like to rewind like it was a "disc" or something old device playing). I conversed with an Agent, and the function was removed in this latest version. I hope they can do something in the next update because I hate that I cannot do this anymore.
Hey @nross33 @xaxoboy @Sisinobubblez
Hi, Mattsuda
I never used the "Car Mode" I have always used on the normal screen. I tried both ways and even when I activate the Car Mode, the Car Mode doesn't appear or change something. I hope they fix it in the next update, for real.
Great News! It looks like they fixed it in the most recent update released this morning (8.8.30).
I am having the same issue which is affecting my experience with the app.
Same here ! I was able to fast foward and rewind songs last summer but it look like its no longer working…
Man, yes!
I updated this morning, and beautiful feeling that I finally rewind, for real 😭.
Life and Spotify is good.
It looks like the latest version of Spotify broke fast-forward and reverse via bluetooth connection. I connect my iPhone to the car via bluetooth and then open the Spotify app on my iPhone. To start a song, I press the play button on my car's interface. To fast-forward, I hold the skip button down on my car's interface. I then release it when I want to stop fast-forwarding. Same with reverse. After the last Spotify update on my phone, however, it won't stop fast-forwarding when I lift up on the skip button. Same with reverse. It just continuously fast-forwards through every single song on the playlist.
Everything else seems to still work fine.

Moderator, please note that the issue above is a completely separate issue and should be started as a new ticket, (it was appended to this thread by the moderator for some reason). I already have 8.8.30 installed. I'm able to fast-forward. It just won't stop fast-forwarding. Same thing in reverse.
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting in the Community and for the info shared.
We really appreciate you keeping us in the loop about this behavior, and we're glad to know that for some of you, this is fixed.
@akantola, would you mind sending us a video recording of what you see on your side? Please attach the video to your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public so we can visualize it.
Lastly, just to confirm, is this happening only when your phone is connected via Bluetooth to your car, or does it happen if you connect your iPhone via cable to your car?
Keep us in the loop!
Hello,
I'm still having the same issues which haven't been solved.
I am on spotify version 8.8.32.533. I was previously on an old iOS update and I updated yesterday to iOS 16.4.1 and the issues are still persisting, can someone please help 😭 I've deleted and redownloaded Spotify, reset car to factory settings, everything possible but fast forwarding/reversing still not working!
Hi, it is still happening for me even with upgrade and all other research done on my end. Once I hold down fast forward or rewind, it's skips the entire time until I close the Spotify app again and restart it. Which of course means distracting is giving music whilst driving until safe to stop. Why is the app update working for some are not for me? Grateful for any advice.
I am also having this issue after doing all of those things. Mine doesn't even stop when I turn the sound system on and off. I have to actually close the app on my phone.
Hey there folks,
Thank you for your replies.
Could you let us know if you’re still experiencing this issue?
Please make sure that you've updated the app to the latest version by following the instructions on this support page
Keep us posted.
Hi , I am still having the issue after updating today , restarting my phone and re-downloading the app , reconnecting to my car. I am remembering not to use the skip or back buttons but I am concerned if I pay to get my car checked out and it is a Spotify issue, it's a lot of money to waste. Even getting it checked is over £100. I remember not to hold skip or back , but if I forget and do it , it is extremely dangerous as it then skips like crazy which is distracting until I can switch to radio. Is anyone else still having this issue? Thank you.
Please help because it is not fixed for me and I have tried everything, ruled out other reasonable explanations. It started right after updating Spotify and does not occur with other apps like Apple Music.
