I have been having a glitch or issue with my spotify while using my waze and uber driver app. Whenever i am on my waze app and receive a request from uber driver, my music “dims” or the volume decreases to notify me that i have an incoming request. Originally, the volume on my music from Spotify returns to its original volume after a couple seconds. For the past week, the exact opposite happens now where the music decreases when receiving a request from uber driver and does not go back to its original volume. The music stays decreased and the only way for the music volume to go back is if i close down my spotify and restart it. Another way, is if i get another incoming request from uber driver and after a couple seconds from receiving the request the volume returns to its original state. Also, I have been noticing that when i have pressed the navigate button on my uber driver app, it automatically reroutes to my waze app and when this happens the music dimming happens. Its especially annoying because i play my music on high volumes and when the music “dims” and goes back up so suddenly it really hurts my ears. I hope that i have been able to explain the situation well and hope that this could be fixed. Thank you!
Hey @bòn,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community.
Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've tried so far so we avoid repeating them? If you haven't already, try performing a clean reinstall of the Spotify app.
Another thing you can check is if Background App Refresh for Spotify is toggled on:
Keep us posted on this.
Cheers!
Hey @bòn,
Thanks for the details.
Can you try to turn OFF the sound notifications for the Waze and Uber apps from your phone's app settings and let us know if the volume changes the same way when you receive a notification.
Keep us posted how you get on.
I also have this issue. I cannot adjust the volume of the music on Spotify while the Uber driver app is also open. Not only that, but for as long as both remain open all notifications and vibrations from Uber Eats are silenced. The above solution “just close Uber eats” basically equates “just don’t work” or “just don’t listen to Spotify while you are working”. It’s not a solution. Please reach out to Uber eats to fix this problem. Thank you!
Hi @Thisdriver42,
Thank you for your reply in this thread.
Can you let us know if you followed the steps that was provided by @Elena earlier in this thread?
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Hello,
Yes i have tried turning off all sounds and vibrations both through the actual apps settings and through the iPhone settings but unfortunately nothing has helped. The problem im having, with the volume, seems to happen whenever i have to switch over to waze, which automatically happens, after pressing the navigate button on the Uber driver app. And the only way to fix it is to close out spotify, every time it happens, then pressing “resume play” on my waze app which automatically opens it back up and resumes my music. I’ve just updated my spotify app an hour ago from the recent update so I will keep you posted when I start work tomorrow.
So I installed the recent update we had for Spotify but unfortunately the problem continues.
Hey everyone,
Thanks for your replies and reports.
We've done some digging around and it seems that the other apps are receiving audio priority from the OS and it doesn't get released back to Spotify. With some apps this can happen even when notifications are silenced, as the audio priority request still gets sent by the app, the sound just doesn't play.
By its nature as an entertainment app, Spotify, by design, does not request audio exclusivity or rank high in the priority table of the OS. This is to ensure that it doesn't interfere with productivity or other apps that might be more vital to a user.
If this is happening only with the mentioned apps and not others (a messaging app or an email app for example that send you notifications), it sounds like they have changed the way they handle audio requests through the OS, as we're not aware of any changes on the way Spotify handles this.
We've reported this to the right teams at Spotify, but that this might require intervention or collaboration with the respective app developers. So we recommend bringing it to the attention of the customer support teams of the respective apps as well.
We understand that this issue is interfering with the way you're used to doing your work. We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have more information.
Cheers.
The issue still persists.
I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. When I’m playing music on Spotify while making deliveries with the Uber Driver app whenever I get a notification from Uber (and the app chimes) the music volume goes to about 50% volume. I have to hard quit the Uber Driver app and then the volume will raise back to 100%. I find that I have to hard quit the Uber Driver app many times each work session and it makes me miserable. Also, sometimes I have turned the music up with the car knob not thinking (while it has been effected by the issue) and then when I hard quit Uber Driver to fix the volume I end up getting blasted by very loud music.
I should mention this is while my iPhone is playing music with Spotify wirelessly via Bluetooth. I keep the CarPlay setting in Spotify turned off as I prefer the normal UI. Some nights I just play the music off of the little iPhone speakers without Bluetooth turned on. I noticed the Uber Driver app interruption/notification doesn’t reduce the volume of the music and then lock in at 50% if I’m not connected to the car stereo via Bluetooth and it is just playing through the iPhone speaker. This has been an issue for me while using both apps simultaneously while driving (been delivering for 2-3 years) from day one. I’m shocked a patch/update hasn’t resolved this irritating and ridiculous issue by now.
I’m an Uber driver as well and have had the same issue as well. Very annoying. I don’t have a fix but I did find a small help in all my internet digging on this issue. Instead of hard resetting the Uber app. Hold your side button to activate Siri, then tap the button again to shut off Siri. This returns the volume to normal. Easier to do on the fly and can keep your eyes on the road. Give it a try. Wish we had a real solution but this at least is faster than restarting the Uber app after every ping.
Seems like if you go to your settings and then choose the app, make sure Uber still has Bluetooth on. Mine did the same thing. Just another thing to try and check off your list.
my god. this issue still exists and has not been resolved for over 1 year. is this a joke?
Still getting this same issue in June 2023. Have tried everything but volume still drops after notifications. It’s so frustrating

My Question or Issue
While using Spotify in my Android Auto I noticed that the quality is very good until I get any notification (for example waze directon or whatsapp message). The quality is back to normal after I close the spotify app and reopen it. Please help me fix it
