How come I can't choose songs on mobile, but can on desktop?

NOTE: I understand choosing songs on mobile is a premium feature. No need to reply with that.

I really, really, find this restriction stupid. All that's different is the screen size. I understand ads, limited skips, but seriously? People with free are already doing it with one platform; why not with the other, also? I really find it annoying.

Sorry to hear that you're frustrated. The short, simple answer is that Spotify has to pay licensing fees to record labels and artists for both Free and Premium users accounts. They do what they can get every benefit for Free users, but they do have to set restrictions to make it so that they get Premium users as well.
