Lg tv not showing on connect devices until I start tv app first

Solved!

Lg tv not showing on connect devices until I start tv app first

Premium

iPhone 8, iPad Air 2019, lgtv c9

uk

hello, I have recently had an issue where my lg c9 tv is not showing up on my connect devices list on my iPad and iPhone anymore, I have tried resetting the router and tv and iPad and iPhone but still it’s not showing anymore unless I start the Spotify app on the tv first, then it instantly shows on the list on both iPad and iPhone and works fine.

i have tried Ethernet and Wi-Fi on my tv with no difference.

everything is updated fully.

my YouTube apps on both iPad and phone see my tv and can switch, as does airplay and my iPad tv remote apps, it’s only Spotify that is a problem, my echo show and dot on the same network are seen, my amp is seen, everything is connected to the same band.

any help or anyone have the same problem show up over the last weeks?

thank you for any help.

Well I saw a small update (iPad 17.6.1) and (iPhone 16.7.10) become available on both my phone and iPad yesterday, it said it fixed something about data execution prevention and low and behold after updating both immediately showed up on the device list again, so it was an apple problem after all, sorry to have troubled you, and thank you for looking into this.

Hey @Zarni66,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We'd suggest you try the following to see if you notice any difference:

  • Performing a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You can see the steps for a clean reinstall here.
  • Making sure your TV firmware is up-to-date.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather further info. Please send us the following:

  • The exact OS that's running on your TV.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • The exact Spotify version that is running on both your mobile device and iPad.

Keep us in the loop!

Hello, thank you for your reply.
I actually have another lg tv in the same room and same network band I use as a pc monitor, it is a Lg c10 . It didn’t have Spotify app installed on it so I did a new install and it was the same, my iPhone and iPad couldn’t see it until I opened the app first on the tv, then it instantly showed up like my other tv does when I open the app.
My OS on my lg c10 is webOS 8.3.0-28 (number1-nameri) and for software update it says 13.30.80
And on my lg c9 is webOS 4.10.0-17 (goldilocks2-grampians)
And for software version it says 05.40.45
All updated to latest.
Good luck with the info!
Regards
Pete

Sorry, I missed the Spotify version = 8.9.60.458 on iPad

and the same it seems for my iPhone 8

i cannot say if it happened after an update as the occur automatically. But it was over the last few weeks only

thanks again

oh I just noticed that the same happens between my iPhone and iPad, so say I open the Spotify app on my iPhone I don’t see my iPad on the list, but if I open the app on my iPad it pops up on the list right away, and the same the other way round. hmm, this is pointing to network and not a tv issue then?

Hey there @Zarni66,

Thanks for your reply and for all the info shared.

We continue investigating this. We'd suggest you try:

  • To update the app on both your mobile device and iPad as it should be the newest version available.
  • To connect your devices to a different network to see if you notice any difference. If possible, you can create a hotspot with your phone and connect all the involved devices to see how it goes.
  • Make sure you provide Spotify access to your local network. Go to iPhone and iPad Settings > Spotify > Local Network, and toggle it on.

We'll be on the lookout, so don't hesitate to add all your questions.
