Missing Chromecast icon on Android app

Missing Chromecast icon on Android app

I have searched ages on here and on the Chromecast forums. There seems to be lots with the same problem but I've given up trying to find any solutions!

I have a Chromecast 2 on the same network as my phone and pc, the latest Chromecast firmware, the newest version of the Chromecast app, the latest version of Google play services, Spotify 4.4 and running Android 5.1 but there is no cast icon on the app. The connected devices screen says it will show when one becomes available even though I have other apps that work first time with it (ES File Explorer being one). Because most just work they think it's an app issue especially as this affects more than one (TuneIn radio app also is missing the cast icon). They also think it's an app problem further as the problem can be duplicated on my wife's phone. We both have a Sony Xperia M2 on lollipop.

I'm not convinced. The Chromecast is working perfectly but it's either the phone or the app that is stopping it from seeing the apps I want to use the most! Everyone is saying it's a problem with the other side so has anyone had this problem and solved it?

I have this problem everyday. Chromecast support in spotify are really bad, and it sometimes seems random what CC devises that show up. I have 2x audio, 1 group and 1 1st gen tv CC.
What usually helps for me is to open the chromecast app, an the restart the spotify app. Not very cool, but it makes it work most of times.

Thanks for your reply. Both sides seem to say their platform works fully with the other but many suggest otherwise! This doesn't work for me. If I open the Chromecast app it shows me the Spotify and TuneIn icons telling me they are supported apps. If I select one it just opens as "normal" without any way of casting the media.

I am very reluctant to write this but it's working. On Thursday I noticed new updates for both Spotify and TuneIn but this did not resolve the problem of not being able to cast either.

Yesterday I too started receiving the LastFM incorrect log in credentials. I went in to correct them only to discover the "devices" available option at the bottom! I was so happy! This error message is wrong because it not only scrobbled but when checking the LastFM app they were all listed. I have no idea if this somehow allowed it to happen but I have no intention of fixing the log in error just in case as it's a simple swipe away of a notification! Can this have been the problem?

I cant mark this as fixed because TuneIn still has the same problem and that doesn't use LastFM but for now the problem has been resolved.
