My camera is not scanning the code. I do have the camera icon.

My camera is not scanning the code. I do have the camera icon.

  • On my iPhone 8plus, I want to scan a code. I have the camera icon available, and I get the notification with the scan button, once I hit Scan, nothing happens.

How do I fix this?

Hey @Sandypantalones, welcome to the Community.

Hope you're doing great!

Make sure Spotify has been allowed access to use the camera of the phone.

What code are you trying to scan? Do you have a screenshot or photo of it?

If you have access to another similar device, could you try scanning it from that device too?

Keep me posted 🙂

Hi, same issue here. I cannot open camera to scan code.

I get the camera icon in the search bar and that does open the screen to scan but when clicking on "scan" it doesn't open the camera.

- I gave Spotify permission to access the camera.

- I also deleted and clean reinstalled Spotify (giving permission for the camera again) but with same result.

It's not that it cannot find the song, I don't get that far... it's actually getting the scan to open the camera.

Am using Android 9, with no issues on anything else and camera working properly.

Any/all advice appreciated.

Many thanks

John

Ps. Not sure where to check that camera has given permission, I just agree when it first attempts to scan.

Hi there @Johnbud,

Thank you for your reply in this thread and for the troubleshooting you've done so far.

First we'd like to suggest that you check if there's any pending OS updates and update to the latest.

If you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app since the card can be corrupted.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you log in with your account on a different device to see if the issue persists?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Hi Jeremy,

Still no joy I am afraid.  Have deleted the app, taken out SD card, cleared cache...re-installed and still the same. After opening the camera icon, I select "Scan" button and the camera momentarily flashes on but then goes back to the Scan button.

Any more advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

... and no Operating System outstanding.

...and camera/Spotify permission is definitely on too.  Thanks.

Hey @Johnbud!

Could you let us know the following:

  • Your device's make, model and OS version.
  • The version of Spotify you're running.

If possible, try logging in to another mobile device to see if the issue persists there. You can also ask a friend or a relative who uses Spotify to log in to their account on your device.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

Thank you.

Not sure how a different account on a different phone would help me... it's
just as if you or someone not connected is doing that.

However I will have someone login on my phone with their account and
conversely me log on to their phone with my account.

Out of interest, when I do this on my account on my tablet, all is okay. So
I would expect it's the phone but what could I do about it.

Many thanks
John

Im hving the same issue camera is not opening to scan... Im using OnePlus 7 running Android 11

Hey @aadityapaul,

Thank you for posting in the Community.

Can you share which troubleshooting steps you've already tried?
We suggest that you start with the ones that are mentioned by @Loxer above.

@Jeremy, @Dian & @Yordan also shared pretty helpful advice on how you can fix the issue.

Keep us posted!

Cheers

Hi,

Unfortunately none of those steps worked but I could scan it with my
tablet.

I then assumed that it must be a combination of the app, with my Android
version and the phone manufacturer combined that were causing the issue.

Sure enough, a new phone and with Android 12 there is no issue, it all
works.

John

Any updates on this? I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and it doesn’t scan the song with the camera. With husbands android works fine. I bought a bracelet that comes with your favorite song code from Spotify but my iPhone doesn’t scan. Please help! Thank you!

Hi there @Midesimone,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

Are you able to scan other Spotify codes with your iPhone, or is it just the one from your bracelet? Could you give this one a try to see if it works?

If you haven't already, it's worth performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps here.

Keep us posted on this. Cheers 🤘

Hi Yordan,

I would like to add info to this. The problem of Midesimone is reproducable on any iPhone that requires to switch to the macro lens to get a sharp picture of small objects. The camera scan option of the spotify iOS app only uses the main camera which does only produce a sharp picture if the item is about 30 cm away from the lens. This is a problem with items that use small spotify codes as her bracelet. The camera API allows to interact with the IPhone Pro Series in a way that it switches the lens most suitable for the "photos" distance. The amazon app is a good example for a camera interation which also works great with the Pro Models (iPhone 16 Pro in my case). I would really like to be able to scan the codes from my cover art calendar again.

Regards

Christian

Hey @mr_pokeylope,

Thank you for the info and for the very detailed explanation! We appreciate your feedback and will use the opportunity as we strive to make the app as good as it can be 🙂

In the meantime, try moving the camera slightly to one side when near-focusing on the song code. Even if they are not completely in-focus, the iOS app does read small codes for us, albeit it sometimes takes a few attempts for it to do so. On your end of course this will also depend on the size & material of the bracelet and how small the code is.

Hope you'll find this info helpful and that you can make this work for the time being! We're here for you in case there's anything else in the meantime.
