Newest update kills local file sync.

Solved!

Newest update kills local file sync.

Spotify Version: 2.1.0.2676
Account: Premium
iOS: 8.1.1
iPhone: 5S
Mac Desktop OS: Yosemite 10.10.1

Updated to the latest Spotify version yesterday. It removed all of my locally synced music (the tracks not available on Spotify, like AC/DC and Tool). Now it won't re-sync them. The Playlists show up as synced, but those tracks are blacked out and give me the "If you own the song, you can sync it from your computer" message. Following the usual steps does not work. If I choose to "Sync All Tracks" it DOES work, but I don't want to do that- not enough room on my iPhone for everything (I THINK this works, anyway- I see a progress bar and it appears to be working, but I cancel it after a few tracks). But there is enough room for the few tracks I want (I have 5 Gigs free). Creating a new playlist and adding those songs to it for syncing does not work either. Nothing has changed about my router setup or my laptop since my last successful sync. The only variable here is the newest Spotify version.

What's next? And please don't tell me I have to delete Spotify and re-sync everything AGAIN. I have to do that EVERY TIME YOU UPDATE THE SOFTWARE.

This is currently a bug with the app when updating. In order to fix it, you will need to delete the whole app and resync all the local files.

I have reported this bug to the developers so hopefully it will be fixed so that when you update to 2.2 when it comes out it won't happen again.

Thanks Matt, Hope re-syncing won't be necessary afte rthe next update, butr this works so my problem is ssolved for now.

Last night I updated to the latest iOS version and guess what?! Suddenly I have the same problem with Spotify again: several songs that I synced (both from the Spotify catalogue and local files) succesfully have now disappeared again. Spotify says these songs were not synced... So the problem still persists in spotify 2.2 and to avoid having to re-sync at every Spotify and/or iOS update a structural solution would be much appreciated

Hey @Jconra I've been talking to a developer at Spotify about this. Hopefully they can find the root of the problem and fix it for the next update.

Well, I deleted the whole app and re-synced it.  And that, of course worked.

Then version 2.2.0.2464 came out a couple of days later and killed my local track sync again.  Had to remove the app completely.  Again.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

This thread has been added to the ticket for this bug.

Thanks for your patience as this gets investigated.

Thanks again Matt! Just some extra info: after my previous message, so after the latest update, I removed the app, reinstalled and re-synced my files. All appeared to be ok. I tested by switching to offline mode and all synced files worked. However, when I was out of the wifi network that my laptop with Spotify runs on, the same songs as before were missing (again). So it appears to me that it is not only a problem that occurs after an update, but is a 'bigger' problem with making music available offline. In the attachment it. Shows that not all playlists have a green 'downloaded' icon, which t me seems to indicate that the playlist was not downloaded (synced) entirely.

I hope this information helps to identify the cause of this problem.

Does the "whole" app need to be deleted, as in desktop and mobile version? I have had this problem as well, but have not deleted the app yet. Currently, some of my local files will work properly, but then a couple days later they will be greyed out. First they showed up as unable to play, now they simply say to sync the tracks even though I have already mulitple times.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon. I recently purcahsed the iPhone 6, so this probally has something to do with it.

@mbdav

Just the mobile app. But this is only a temporary solution... the local files will then become unsynced again.

Last I heard the developers are still investigating this bug.

This problem is still not solved.

Updated to version 2.8 and still facing this problem. Since I have a lot local tracks, re-synchronizing them is not only annoying but very time consuming.

I am having this problem as well, but also Spotify doesn't seem to be showing my connected devices (ie iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S3) so nothing will download.

I've been having this issue for months as well. It is incredibly annoying. I usually stop updating for months at a time, and every single time I give in and update to check out the new features I have to delete spotify and resync everything from scratch all over again. Do the developers believe I have infinite time on my hands to do this every week! This has been going on for a year now... Get it fixed or I'm switching to another music service.
