Hello, I’ve been having an issue with a specific podcast on Spotify that won’t play on my phone. All other podcasts and songs play on my phone but one of my podcasts will only play if I connect my phone to an external device like my TV or computer. However it refuses to play from my phone. I’ve tried logging out, I’ve tried the deleting the app and doing a clean reinstall, I’ve tried hard restarting my phone. The issue still persists. Please provide any other ideas you might have. Thank you.

Hi there @mike_reflect!

 

Does the issue persist when you switch to a different network / turn on mobile data? If possible, try playing the podcast on another mobile device (a friend's or a relative's who uses Spotify would do). You can also ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your iPhone to check if the podcast would play then.

 

If you want to, you can share the podcast's URL here so we can test if we can play it on our end.

So the issue still persists whether just on wifi or cellular. I sent the podcast to a friend and they mentioned it wouldn’t play on their phone either. This is the link. The podcast is called “The Headgum Podcast”:

Just to confirm, is this happening with all the episodes of the podcast or just a specific one? You can also ask your friend if this happens to them with all the episodes as well. Also, can you share with us the exact Spotify version you have installed on your phone?


On another note, are you able to start playback from a different device (e.g. desktop, web player) and then change it to the phone? If not sure, please check and let us know if you notice any difference.

 

Lastly, could you ask your friend the exact make/model and operating system of their current device along with the Spotify version they use?

hi! None of the podcast episodes play for both of us, but they will play if connect my phone with another device with the Spotify app, then it will play from that device and I can control the playback on my phone. As soon as I disconnect and try to play from my phone again, it stops working. My friend has an iPhone 13 with IOS 15.4.1. And we both are running Spotify version 8.7.28

Thanks for the post.

 

We looked further into this and it looks like The Headgum Podcast is hosted by the podcast creator and not on the Spotify servers. This would explain why the episodes might not be steamtable on some platforms. In this case it's best to reach out to the podcast creator directly and inform them that the podcast is not running as expected on iOS.
