Radio on iOS ignores Spotify Mobile Data Setting

Radio on iOS ignores Spotify Mobile Data Setting

The radio obviously streams music using a mobile data connection, even if this is blocked within the iOS settings. General mobile data were enabled, but usage by Spotify was switched off.

I regard this a serious  problem. Together with the new autoplay feature, which was turned on by default, it caused my data volume to be used up at the 2nd of the month. Thank you very much!

Hey Benoites,

Sorry that you are having trouble with your mobile data and streaming. Try connecting your phone to wifi when available to minimise using your mobile data (if you're able) and I might also suggest looking into your Spotify app settings, specifically your "streaming quality" settings in which you can adjust the individual settings to your liking. If you happen to be a premium member you can download your playlists and listen to them without using up your data or with an internet connection.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help further.

Sorry, but that is somewhat beside the point.
I 've tried a few things in the meantime and the problem isn't actually
restricted to radio streams. It seems that once the app has gone into
online state, it will keep it, even if the WIFI connection breaks away
afterwards. In that case, the iOS setting which usually controls
app-specific usage of mobile data doesn't seem to have any effect
whatsoever.

I encountered the same problem today. Before that I already had the problem, that Spotify downloaded content (maybe Album Covers or something similiar), even when "Download Using Cellular" was turned off .

Following that I disabled Mobile Data Usage in the iOS settings as well, to restrict that, but the app ignores these settings when Autoplay is enabled. When an artist ends, new songs are streamed. I checked the settings app before and after a new Autoplay song started and the used data went up.

Especially in countries with small and expensive data contracts, this is a huge problem!

Hello ueberf,

It looks like you have covered the bases I'd recommend. At this point I would recommend contacting Spotify directly by submitting a contact form so Spotify support can look into the problem further. I'm sorry you are still experiencing issues with listening.
