Searching for a podcast breaks currently playing playlist

Searching for a podcast breaks currently playing playlist

This is a problem I’ve been having on the iOS version of Spotify since the big changes last year.

If I search for a podcast while listening to a playlist, the latest episode of that podcast will start playing at the end of the song that’s currently playing, and the playlist will no longer be active. This means that I can’t (for instance) download podcast episodes while listening to music, because a different podcast episode starts playing instead of the music I was listening to.

Is there a way to fix this? It’s been happening for months, and it’s extremely annoying.

Hey @Luxembourg,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

We understand that you're experiencing some sort of issues with your playback queue, when browsing for podcasts.  Could we ask you for a screen recording so we can take a closer look, as we weren't able to replicate this situation on our end. You can send a link to it or attach it using the Insert Video option in the post editor.

Also besides the video, could you share with us your current Spotify app version, as well as the model and OS version of your iPhone. This info will be helpful, so we can provide you with a more relevant advice.

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Coming back to this as it’s still happening.

I wasn’t able to replicate the issue with a screen recorder. What I’ve done instead is take screenshots of the process that causes it to occur.

in the first screenshot, I’m playing a playlist.

in the second screenshot, I’ve searched for a random podcast theme. I open one of the podcasts but don’t hit play, add any episodes to the queue etc.

in the third screenshot, I’ve skipped forward one track in the playlist, and instead of playing the next song, it’s started playing an episode from the podcast I searched for and opened.

is there any way to prevent this happening?

edit: the images didn’t upload in the correct order and I can’t figure out how to change the order, hope that’s not too unclear.

Hey there @Luxembourg

Thanks for getting back to us.

We tried this on our end, but we could replicate it.

In this case, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app on your phone to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. This one is more thorough than the usual one.

If this doesn't do the trick, would you mind asking a friend or a relative to log in to their account in your phone to check if the issue persists with a different account?

Also, we'd like to know if this happens across devices or only on your phone.

We'll be on the lookout.
