Slow offline playlist Wi-Fi Sync - Spotify on iPhone 5

Solved!

Slow offline playlist Wi-Fi Sync - Spotify on iPhone 5

Hello,

I am unsure why, but for some reason Wi-Fi sync appears to be very slow on my iPhone 5 when attempting to make my playlist "avaliable offline". I have an iPhone 4S aswell, which has remarkably fast Wi-Fi syncing, this is not the case for my iPhone 5. I am certain this is not due to my Wi-Fi at home as my speeds are 117 mbits down and 2.7 up. With such a fast download speed, you'd think a 7 mb song would sync in under a second. This is the case on my 4S, but not the 5.

Also, oddly, when using LTE, the sync speed is significantly faster than my wifi for my 5.

I do not think this is a router issue, rather a setting on my iPhone 5. If it helps I do use an Airport Extreme for Wi-Fi.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I am still experiencing issues. Slow on any Wifi. Very fast on celluar. Issue on iPhone 5 only.

After nearly two weeks exhanging emails, support revealed to me today its startling conclusion: The Spotify app has an issue with the iPhone 5.

Wow..... Ground breaking conclusion..... Just wondering how many more weeks will it take to get a solution.

Guys, after a week and a half of slow wi-fi sync I believe I have solved the issue. After testing 3 routers in my house, I went to 4 other locations and experienced the same wi-fi slow sync. Then, in one place with slower (tested speeds at each location) wi-fi, the wi-fi sync worked fast. Here is the issue. The Iphone 5 is communicating too fast with our "fast- N/G" wireless routers. I turned the speed on my Cisco wireless router from Mixed (Wireless G,N,B) to just Wireless B. When I did that, music downloads fast once again. Not ideal and something Spotify needs to fix, but the phone and router are communicating faster than the old Spotify app which is not optimized for IOS 6 and IPhone 5. Hope this helps you all - I spent a week+ isolating the issue - was making me crazy. Let me know if this works for you!

You're a genius—this does actually work… but I don't especially want to live my life on 802.11b just so I can sync Spotify. I hope they fix the issue quickly! Thanks for working it out…

it´s works very slow with ios 6 and ios 6.0.1..... a solution?????????? one month i can´t hear music offline in premium????

Is this issue being looked into?  Also does anybody konw, if I change my router settings to the suggestion above, will it significantly impact my wifi speed?

Didn't realize that the iPhone5 was going to be an issue.... I got a better phone, but having trouble with my music now..

I've found another solution that seems to work with me.  Whilst on wifi, if i start playing an unsynced song that is above the rest of   the synced songs and airplay it to my pc, (and just leave it playing, so it plays through to the synced songs), my unsynced songs seem to sync much much quicker.

For this to work though, you need to make sure that your sync and streaming quality settings are the same.

This is not just isolated to the iPhone 5. I have a 4S and just in the past two weeks or so I'm having the same problems. Syncs used to be quite fast and all of a sudden I can't make it through an entire album without Spotify pausing my download if I'm not keeping it active. Very annoying. It should not take this long to move 10 or 12 songs across the internet and over wifi even at 320kbps.

Just curious if this ever got resolved... I switched to Spotify Premium, and it seems to take several minutes to sync each song at 320kbps. An 8 song playlist took over 30 minutes. Mog is much faster on the same phone and wireless network, so I'm pretty sure it's the Spotify app.

Marked as solution

Hasn't been resolved.

iam in Australia , thinks its a world wide problem with the IPhone 5 with downloading tunes with spotify its either very slow or nothing at all iam finding , when i spoke to the apple store here and the Telstra store they also informed me that the Iphone 5 has the worst antenna of all the Iphones in it too grrrrrrrrrr well thats not going to help things either here , i had the Iphone 4 running spotify and it was all smooth sailing no problems what so ever , Apple or Spotify who ever the problem is with needs to get this sorted , all i can do here is stream my tunes and living in Oz with the rubish monthly wirless mobile internet plans is costing me big time as i live away from home with work

It's not an iPhone thing (or at least, the solution doesn't have to come from Apple). I've tried MOG over wifi on my phone and get 12s downloads, while Spotify takes 3:25 for the same song at the same or lower bitrate.

Anyone have any luck? I just got a new iPhone 5 and my downloads are much slower than on my iPhone 4 (comparing them side by side). Switching the router to just "b" didn't seem to help.

I've been emailing back & forth with tech support... They wanted me to check if it's every WiFi network, or just my network at home. Unfortunately, I can't connect at work because the iOS app won't work with a proxy.

Could anyone else out there try 2 or more wireless networks to see if it's a universal problem? Also, is everyone reporting this on a Netgear router, or an 802.11n router?

iPhone 5 from australia too. My iPhone syncs extremely slowly (probably takes 10 minutes for 1 track) and my computer is not much better. When I have it syncing, it does about 1 track every 5 minutes.

I really wish there was some kind of answer to all of this!

Well, here is the final message I got from tech support after trying various experiments.

Thanks for taking the time to investigate this issue your end, we are aware of the slow sync issue that customers are having with the iPhone 5 and i can assure you that we have a best people on it working in conjunction with Apple to try and resolve this ASAP for you, please keep an eye on the App store for an update to the Spotify App.

A message saying "the fix is in the mail" would have been better, but at least they've acknowledged that there is an issue with iPhone 5 that affects more than one customer and that someone is working on it.

Thanks for posting that! Sounds like its a combination iPhone+Spotify issue.. iPhone has always been a little sucky when it comes to wifi speeds despite "supporting" type-n.... I really hope they fix his soon i'm going to be checking the store daily as it sucks having a slow product that you're paying for.

I saw an earlier post that tried switching the router wireless mode to 802.11b and that seemed to solve the problem. Seems like a temporary workaround until Spotify fixes this glaring issue.

It seems pretty ridiculous that this issues is still pending! I have been a full fee paying customer for some time now, and I am still to get full functionality. I would sincerely appreciate some feedback, at least!
