Songs won’t play on data

Songs won’t play on data

I’ve had trouble with playing songs or podcasts on data/offline for about two months now with premium. I can play downloaded songs and listen with wifi, but I can’t use data. It only shows that I’m offline or “connecting” (which it never actually completes). I know my connection is good because I’ve used other apps and they work perfectly fine. I’ve clean reinstalled the app 3 times, but still the problem persists. Ive tried verifying that it is my account, but I can’t tell since the problem only exists on my phone (a computer doesn’t have offline/data capability.) please help… I’ve been paying for Spotify premium for around a year, but the past two months or more have given little to no benefit.

Hi there @Josiah_Jaxn

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

We suggest that you head over to your phone's Settings > Apps > Spotify and check if the app has all necessary permissions enabled under Data usage.

If so, could you let us know if this started happening after a specific event?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

I have the same problem. My settings on my phone are correct - data enabled. So frustrating paying for a service that doesn’t work. The only way I can get it to play away from wifi is to have downloaded playlists. I want to be able to select what I listen to

Hi @Peta13,

Welcome to the Community!

Could you let us know the following:

  • the model of your device + the version of your operating system
  • the version of your Spotify app

If you're using a VPN, try disabling it to see if that does the trick.

Keep us posted on this.

Take care!

I am using iPhone 12 OS 15.2.1

spotify version 8.6.98.1447

Hey again @Peta13,

Thanks for providing this info!

Since you're using an iPhone, could you confirm that you've enabled Spotify to use mobile data? Here's how:

  1. Open your iPhone's Settings and go to Cellular Data.
  2. Scroll down a bit, find the Spotify app and make sure it's ticked (so it can use cellular data)

Let us know how it goes.

Yes I have already enabled data

Hey @Peta13,

Thanks for keeping in touch.

Could you ask a friend or relative to log in to their account on your iPhone to see if the same happens? This would help us understand if this is device or account related.

We'd also like to know if this started happening after a specific event, such as an app or OS update.

Keep us posted.

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I am using Infinix Hot 10i, and I have the same problem with everyone here... I can't access and play music in Spotify when I am using mobile data. And everytime I am outside home, I can't play music as it says no internet connection.

Hey @Llesa,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

We understand where you're coming from and we appreciate the time you're taking sharing this report. However, to be on the same page, would you mind confirming the troubleshooting you've done so far?

Also, to keep investigating your case, include in your next response the OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running. This will give us a better look at the issue.

We'll be on the lookout.

I’m not sure if this will help but I recently returned from an international trip and I couldn’t get my account to play on data either. The video seemed to cycle but the song would never start playing. I logged out of the app and logged back in and that fixed the problem immediately.

I've been having this issue for months. Not being able to play songs on Spotify without using WiFi. I'm using Infinix hot 12i and the 8.8.36.522 version of spotify. I've checked my data restriction , updated the app and deleted the cache data yet it remains the same issue 😕. Please how do I solve this problem ?

same. Changed from a huawei phone to a samsung note 10+ , on spotify 8.9.18.512. did all the troubleshooting stated here, permissions etc. it just doesn't work. When wifi is enabled, everything works. when wifi is turned off and data is turned on. it sets itself to offline but i cannot hear even songs that i download. pls fix.

Hey @ampmxmnom

Thank you for posting in the Community and for letting us know about the troubleshooting you've done so far. Let's look at this together shall we.

You mentioned you've tried the previously given steps by the other mods. As a next step we would advise to try with a different SIM card from another service provider and check if you're experiencing the same issue. You can ask a friend or relative if they could lend you the card while you test if this will prove helpful. If the issue persists then we will know that its a localized problem on the device itself.

Another thing, could you confirm whether or not the clean uninstall worked. You can follow the steps on how to perform it in this article.

As a last request, could you also send us the version of the OS your device is running.

We will be on the lookout.

Add the song to the que and it will let you click on it and play it from there for me . It's a build/design flaw issue of Spotifys. Waiting for a new update.
