My Question or Issue

Spotify connect volume control is broken when using hardware volume buttons. It used to work, then it became intermittent, working at first and after a few minutes no longer responding, and now not at all. But only on my device. This issue started before 17.5 and must have been around 17.3 time when it started. Friends with the same device and OS and older devices and OS versions are able to control volume with hardware buttons as it should be. Being forced to unlock phone -> open app -> open devices tab, just to change the volume of my speakers is beyond bad UX and must be fixed or reverted to previous function. Tidal does this still with its Tidal Connect and this works as Spotify used.

Hey there @roycomputer! I'm sorry that you're experiencing this issue while using Spotify.

Can you tell me if this issue is happening with just one specific external device when you use Spotify Connect to listen to music, or is it happening with multiple devices?

If your external device uses software, can you check if it's up to date, along with the Spotify app?

If you haven't already tried, you can also try a clean reinstall by following these steps to see if it helps.

Looking out to your reply

@MateusM This happens with both a google nest mini as well as Sonos system. It also seems to happen on different phones. I have tried reinstalling Spotify many times using all methods including offloading and deleting cache etc. I even did an os reinstall on my phone. Still all broken. Trying on other devices running on 17.4.1 it worked, which it never did for me. Then updating one device to 17.5.1 also broke volume control. But I don’t think it’s this updates fault because volume control was broken for me since before I updated my device to 17.5. Everything that can be, is up to date

Thanks for getting back @roycomputer!

Unfortunately, this issue seems to be related to the iOS version. I'd recommend checking out this thread and looking at the top answer for more info.

Hope this clears things up

Do you know this as fact or are you just guessing? You are not an employee of Spotify, are you privy to informatIon that us general public does not have? I am still able to use volume buttons to control the music volume on my speakers when I’m using Tidal Connect. Tidal is capable of this functionality on iOS 17.5.1, why isn’t Spotify? I am aware of that thread and the top answer is no good answer at all, and also seems to be from a non-employee. Not trying to be rude, just to the point. It becomes misleading when people state things that appear to represent Spotify in some way, but it is unclear if they really know anything or are just going off the same information the rest of us are.

@MateusM You should be more careful with making unfounded claims in the future because, as you can even see in that thread, the problem was fixed with a Spotify app update and not an iOS update. Just for your future responses.
