Spotify autoplays when I plug in a headphone jack

My Question or Issue

When I connect to a headphone jack adapter, Spotify autoplays even if the app is closed. I made sure to close the app because the last time I accidently left the app open, it broadcasted over speakers at a youth football game. Today, I connected my phone to the headphone jack adapter, went to a different app to play music, and hit the button to increase the volume but that caused Spotify to play as well. Again, the app was closed.

What am I doing wrong? I would like to be able to plug in my phone without Spotify autoplaying.

Thanks for getting in touch. There are several possibilities as to what could be causing this. Try checking the following:

1. Check for automated routines set on your device that could be causing this, such as Samsung's Bixby
2. If your headphones have some kind of app to go with them, double check and see if you can change the button behavior
3. Check your phone settings to see if there are built-in quick launch options for hands-free devices.
