Spotify connect to fire tv crashes - both from ipad and iphone

I am a spotify premium user who regularly used the connect feature from various ios devices to stream through two fire tv's in different parts of the house. Following spotify ios app updates earlier this year, connect started crashing on the fire tv any time I attempt to use it. I get bounced back out to the fire tv home screen within a few seconds of selecting either fire tv from the connect menu in ios.

I have tried just about everything to fix this myself and am posting as a last resort before canceling my subscription. For reference, I have reset fire tvs to factory, assigned static ports to all devices, reinstalled apps on both platforms, and yesterday I even revived an old android phone to sideload android spotify, connected a mouse through adb, all to use spotify that way through fire tv. The app loaded, mouse worked, but there was no sound. Sigh.

This is all super frustrating for something that was working perfectly back in January.

I should mention the fire tv's are registered to my wife's email address and the spotify account to mine. Did you all make a security change of some sort that has killed all home streaming functionality for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
