Spotify looks different for me than my friends?

My Question or Issue

hello!

I’ve been using Spotify for a number of years on my iPad and Chromebook and it’s worked w/o a hitch. however, I just started using it on my iPhone, and it’s completely different- I can’t add songs to my queue, skip/rewind to certain points on a song, replay songs, or look at song information (producers, release date, etc.). it also looks really different when I click on an artist’s profile. instead of showing their top 5 songs that you can click on and play, it displays a list of their entire discography, but you can only preview them! another thing I noticed was that when I looked up a song and tried to play it, it would shuffle a playlist and I would just have to get lucky for it to play. however, I recently saw what Spotify Free looks like on my friend’s iPhone 12/13, and it looks and works exactly how it works on my iPad/Chromebook! I’ve done all the most recent software/app updates, logged in and out, restarted my phone, and deleted the app in an effort to get it to work like hers, but nothing seems to be working. does anyone know why this is happening or if it’s fixable? thanks!

Hey there @boop_soup,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

The free account on the mobile app allows you to play playlists and albums in shuffle mode, and it's not possible to play individual songs on demand (except on special Pick and Play playlists like your Discovery Weekly, Daily Mix, and Release Radar). This is why you can't pick individual tracks or only see the preview of the songs.

If the app's behavior is different on your friend's iPhone, it's possible that they're part of a test. We’re always testing possible improvements and new features, so you might see something on the app that other users don't and vice versa, or get a brand-new feature for only a temporary period.
