Spotify will not work on ipod touch 2g

Solved!

Spotify will not work on ipod touch 2g

I am trying to install spotify. On my iPod touch 2nd gen running IOS 4.2.1. When I try to download / install it. I get message saying you need to upgrade to IOS 5. But, 4.2.1 is the latest IOS for that device.

Doesn't seem to work without crashing on iOS 5 either, so never mind the iOS version... I have cancelled my subscription and as it seems, other users do the same because of issues that have been around for months with almost no apparent intentions from Spotify support to help users here. Almost no reaction to a massively annoying problem on certain devices - this is nothing I want to pay money for.

I'm having the same problem..

Hello.

Welcome to the community.

The latest version of the Spotify application on iOS devices requires iOS5 in order to run.

You need to use the previous spotify app ie "Spotify to iOS4" and ignore the requests from Spotify to upgrade your iOS (you can't anyway and the blame goes to... Apple!!!!!"

I have been a premium subsrcriber since the beginning although I am a student with limited funds.

No version of spotify has worked on my Ipod touch 2nd Gen for months and now I made the decision to change my subscription to Spotify Unlimited instead.

Very dissapointed, how hard could it be to keep and old version of spotify?

How do I get the "old" app? Whenever I try to download I just get the message yo your **bleep**'s dusted time to buy a new! WTF?!
Besides the Samsung player, sploosh, (no sploosh on the price) what else is there to run
spotify premium on besides phones? Seriously I'm gonna run a bus toting nuns into a wall constantly fiddly punkin w/ my phone playing dj on the happy happy hello line. Grrrrrr

Hey guys 🙂

You need at least iOS 4 to use Spotify on an iOS device.

If your device can't be updated beyond iOS 4, then you need to use Spotify for iOS 4.

If you are on iOS 5 or 6, then you can use the up-to-date application Spotify.

This option is no longer available?? Why?? It is very unfair!

Spotify for iOS 4 was pulled, because apparently you can download the last compatible version from the App Store on older devices, but it doesn't work.

I've been asking the guys to sort it out since the app got pulled, but still no solution to this I'm afraid.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod Touch as well and just upgraded to Spotify Premium. I would like to be able to transfer songs/playlists to my ipod, but like mentioned above, the Spotify app doesn't work on iOS 4. I tried to install the normal Spotify app on my ipod but it says:

"This application requires iOS 6.0 or later. You must update to iOS 6.0 in order to download and use this application."

I've also been reviewing this thread: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-iOS-iPhone-iPad-iPod-Touch/Spotify-for-iOs-4-no-longer-in-the-a...

I'm under the impression that a version for iOS 4 was brought back, but then taken away again. This was because installing Spotify in general should now install the correct version for your device. But like you said, Peter, it's not working like it's supposed to (hence the error I'm getting).

Thanks for the help,

Ryan

We are unfortunately still waiting on a solution, its something the community rock star team are still pushing for.

Ok, thanks for working on the issue, Peter.

I have the same problem please could you solve this problem....Thanks

@supermike69720 I'm a bit confused as in your other post you were saying that spotify free wasn't working and I explained why. I understood that spotify was installed and working on your touch. If that's not the case, please shout.

Yes Spotify work in my ipod touch but with premium account but i want to use spotify free on my ipod touch 2g.

It's not possible to update the old version of spotify (V0.4) to use spotify free!?

It could be a very good idea!

No I'm afraid not.

This is not a very environmentally friendly spirit.Throw my old ipod touch 2g and buy a new ipod touch to use Spotify is not very good.

Unfortunately, technology moves on and the blame here isn't really with Spotify - it is Apple who chose to end of life iOS devices by not giving them iOS updates.

Current Spotify apps require iOS 6 or above, so I would assume there is something in Spotify which now requires a feature which was not available in iOS 5 or below.
