Spotify with CarPlay and Apple Watch

Spotify with CarPlay and Apple Watch

Hello, I’m a Spotify Premium user on an iPhone 7 Plus with latest iOS updates. I also own an Apple Watch 3 with the Spotify app installed on it.

One of the great things about the Apple Watch Spotify app is that when Spotify is playing on my phone I can just tilt my wrist and see what song is playing. Not to mention the great controls. But a recent update to the Spotify app causes the Apple Watch app to gray out on the watch when the phone is connected to CarPlay. It doesn’t even show which song is playing. The annoying thing is that the Spotify watch app always comes up when Spotify is playing through CarPlay, so even if I go to the Now Playing app on my watch, which correctly shows which song is playing, the Spotify app takes over the moment the next song starts. This is super frustrating to me because it was how I got around the biggest problem and usability issue I have with CarPlay: if you’re using a map app (which is what I’m using 100% of the time I’m using CarPlay), CarPlay doesn’t show the currently playing song short of touching the screen to see the name, and then touching it again to switch back to the map. It’s much much easier AND SAFER to just tilt my wrist to see which song is playing - but that doesn’t work anymore with the latest Spotify. The only solution is to uninstall the Spotify app from my watch. But I love the watch app, so I hate doing it. Please allow the Spotify watch app to work while the phone is connected to CarPlay.
