Weird problem. Been using Spotify mostly with no issues for a year. yesterday it wouldn't stream properly on wifi...would play for ten seconds, stop for a minute, start again. searching was super slow. this lasted about two hours..then resolved. thought it was over.
today the problem recurred, but it's been four or five hours and it isn't going away. i tried shutting off wifi and then, bam, it worked fine on LTE. plays perfectly. not latency. toggle back to wifi...spotify stops again.
this is happening on both my iphone 5 and ipad 3. all software is up to date. more strange, everything else works fine...MOG, Pandora, Youtube, everything streams just dandy on wifi. not Spotify.
I've recycled my modem in case there was a cache issue but it didn't help. I suppose there could be a Roadrunner issue (my cable isp) but i have no idea. Anyone got any thoughts?
Mine has been doing the same over the last 24 hours or so. Streams a few songs just fine (Premium quality) and then it stops. Sometimes it'll resume after a few minutes if I leave it alone, otherwise I have to fiddle with the app to get it to respond again.
Happening again, right now. seems to start around 5pm ish. last night from 5 till sometime after 8 Spotify was useless. I guess that's the new normal for me now.
Support asked me to play with IP settings in my router, but notwithstanding i'm not comfortable futzing with my router at this point, i don't get how it could be IP related when it works most of the time except for a few, now-consistent hours. As usual support sucks.
I'm guessing it's something to do with network congestion on their end, and the last thing they'd ever want to admit is that they couldn't provide a service that you're paying for, so support staff will always default to finding another reason for it. Spotify isn't alone in this, of course, as it's generally what I encounter no matter whose support line I'm calling. Spotify works well most days, and is still a good value for the money, but I do wish they'd be a little less quick to displace blame for issues like this.
kinda what i thought. started working again within thirty minutes tonight. Progress! The irony is that if there's an issue on their end, i wish they'd just say so. i don't really mind, i'm cool with occasional outages, i have other services i can use...whatever. Spotify works fine almost all the time so i can deal with some issues. but when they act like "everything's fine with us, must be YOU" i waste time trying to fix something on my end.
Interesting. I had assumed it worked on LTE because it was faster than my RR connection. Guess not.
i tried the "start on LTE, switch to wifi" thing but the track always stopped after a minute or so.
FWIW i haven't had the problem for the past week or so, that I've noticed. I'm sure it's not gone for good.
Spoke too soon. It's happening again today.
Spotify's service just blows.
Hey guys 🙂
It sounds like your router is preventing Spotify from accessing the Internet.
I would suggest you have a read at the connection troubleshooting guidelines and make sure your router has the Spotify ports open.

Spotify support said the same. Makes no sense though..service works fine for days, then just acts poorly on wifi from 4pm to 8 or 9pm est? If the router connects fine the other 20 hours of every day, it's clearly not preventing two way access for Spotify.
Maybe there is an issue specific to RR/TWC network..but i have trouble believing the router is at fault when it's worked fine with Spotify for a year and only has issues four hours a day.
