My Question or Issue:
I’m trying to delete my cache as my Spotify keeps crashing and need to do a clean reinstall. When I go into Spotify’s settings on my phone and click “delete cache” it doesn’t delete it. I’ll click it again and after 2-3 tries, it goes down to 0kb.
However, as soon as I close the app and then reopen it, the cache is back to the full number it was previously (6.3MB).
I deleted the app and reinstalled and tried again. I managed to get it down to 1MB and then after many tries, down to 0kb again. But right after, when I reopen the app immediately, it either goes back up to 6.3MB or to 1MB. How can I delete it permanently?
Hey @Mimifangs,
Thanks for reaching out.
Have you tried restarting the device? This is a simple and very effective, but often overlooked step.
Also, keep in mind that the certain files in the cache are necessary for the app to function properly and it can't consistently remain empty. This would mean the a couple of MBs stored is expected behavior.
Hope this shines a bit of light on the matter. We'll be here if you have any other questions.
Hi, yes I’ve tried this. I’ve tried offloading the app, logging out, deleting Spotify, restarted my phone, none of it worked. The cache keeps going back up to 6mb and won’t delete.
Hey there @Mimifangs,
Thanks for the reply.
Once you log in the app with your account, some cache is automatically saved to the device's memory. This is so that the app can load up your profile data up.
Can you let us know if you get any error messages when you uninstall the app? Adding some screenshots or a video recording to your reply would also be helpful.
Another thing you can try is to disable any Battery Optimization for Spotify, as this option crashes the app or makes it slower on some devices.
Keep us posted on how you get on with this 🙂
Hey @Mimifangs,
Thanks for the info 🙂
This could indeed happen. As @Mihail mentioned there are certain files in the cache that are necessary for the app to function properly. This is why there could be a couple of MBs stored on the device.

The button just doesn’t work, it's not removing any data period. The issue is due to poor programming so stop suggesting run around troubleshooting steps and get the appropriate team to address the issue. This is ridiculous.
No this is actually rediculous. I have premium too. Spotify won’t let me delete playlists but will let me edit them and do all the other options even tho they are my own. I’m having a similar issue with the cache AND delete storage button. Every time I press it it just doesn’t do anything, similar to when I press delete playlist nothing happens. Can’t find answers anywhere. This is starting to annoy me bad. All I’ve seen is “well go do it from the web browser” THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT I WANT TO BE ABOE TO DO EVERYTHING FROM MY PHONE.
I am also having Spotify constantly dropping out, I have done the cache empty but still 6mb showing and I have clean installed the app. It played ok so about 20 mins now dropping out again
I wish It would let me clear my cache so maybe my shuffle would actually shuffle instead of constantly being the same songs in the same order. It's crazy we pay so much for such a broken app.
When I press the “clear cache” button, it just… doesn’t respond at all.
My songs also keep crashing and when i want to delete cache nothing happens.
