My Question or Issue

When listening to certain songs, some vocals sound distant. They are very quiet and sometimes they have a slight echo, depending on the song. (An example of this is “Space Oddity” by David Bowie, main vocals will become almost inaudible at certain parts of the song while backing vocals remain loud. This also occurs in other songs too.)

I’ve had this issue for quite a while now, however it only occurs when I play music through my phone. Music being played through my television, iMac or car radio all sounds perfectly fine. However, if I play the same songs I am having trouble with on my phone through YouTube it sounds fine, so my phone only seems to have this problem with Spotify.

I’ve searched online for solutions but nobody seems to have an answer. I’ve tried playing around with the Spotify settings (Streaming audio on “very high”, disabling audio normalisation etc.) however nothing seems to make a difference.

Hey @user-removed, thanks for writing!

Do you use headphones when listening to Spotify with you phone? Have you tried using a different model?

Also, can you paste the songs' links here? Space Oddity for example has several versions. This one is a mono remaster. How does it sound for you?

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.

I have not been using headphones while listening to music recently as my pair broke on me a while back, so I’m not too sure if the issue is still there with headphones in.

My sister has the same phone and all audio seems to be normal with her.

The version of Space Oddity that you provided seems to sound completely normal. Exactly the version I have used to sound like.

I have been listening to the 2015 remaster of Space Oddity (https://open.spotify.com/track/72Z17vmmeQKAg8bptWvpVG?si=EsRzVDgYS_KqxEZkSHeWuw)

However, I have always listened to this version, and never used to have any issues.

I understand that I could just find other versions of the songs that I have these problems with, but I’m just hoping there’s a way to fix it haha.

I understand you, @user-removed.

Well, maybe reinstalling the app might help?

Unfortunately, reinstalling the app didn’t change anything.
