cannot pin any new playlists or artists (premium user)

cannot pin any new playlists or artists (premium user)

I've not been able to pin any new artists or playlists. I have spotify premium and only 3 things pinned. Idk why I can't pin any new ones. Like the button is straight up not there.

Hey! Unfortunately, and I have absolutely no idea why Spotify has done this, you can currently only have 3 pieces of content pinned at one time. Which seems crazy when most people I know have at least 20 playlists in their library, not to mention it'd be incredible to be able to have multiple albums, artists, and folders pinned, and subsequently rotate those pins as you please.

As a user, to pin anything new, you'll first have to unpin something in your library. Then, add the new desired pin.

I hope this helps!

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

Currently, it's possible to pin up to 4 items in Spotify, but we always strive to improve and offer better functions. Thanks for sharing your feedback with us.

There's other users that have mentioned they'd like to increase the number of pins, so it's worth supporting this Idea by giving your votes. The more votes it gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.

Give us a shout if you need help with anything else 🙂

I know the limit for playlists should only be 4 and that Spotify has acknowledged that it is working on this issue since 2021. My issue is that I can only pin 3 playlists and am getting an error message that I have 4. I can count to 4 and I am only counting 3.

Hey @threela,

Thanks for reaching out.

Note that you can also pin podcasts and artists to Your Library so try deselecting the Playlists filter at the top of the page and see if that 4th pin shows up.

If it doesn't, send us your device model, OS version and Spotify version and try some basic troubleshooting steps like logging out and back in a couple of times and clean reinstalling the app.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Mihail,

I followed your instructions and was still unsuccessful. Here are the steps I took:

  • Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums, Podcasts & Shows, and Events and confirmed there were no extraneous pins being consumed
  • I am using the web browser so I cannot uninstall. I did log out and log back in and confirmed no change in behavior

Please let me know if there are additional troubleshooting steps using the web browser.

Hi @threela, thanks for your response.

This is really odd as I just tested this from my end using the web player and I was able to add the 4th pinned playlist without a problem. I understand you're currently using the web player, but if possible, can you try using the desktop or mobile app from a different device? If you're able to pin the playlist over there, it should also reflect in the web player.

If the issue continues after trying from a different device, please send us a screenshot of how your library looks like. Make sure to hide any sensitive info like your account's username.

We'll be waiting for your response.

I was able to add an additional pinned playlist in my mobile app and it is now working on the browser.

My Question or Issue

I am trying to pin four playlists. It says I have four pins, but I only have 3.

- I have searched through my library and can find no fourth pin. No episodes, no playlists, no folders.

- Unpinning and repinning does not solve the issue.

- Restarting devices does not solve the issue.- Logging in and out does not solve the issue.

- Other devices does not solve the issue. (Mac Desktop, Browser, and ios app)

- Clearing cache does not solve the issue. (Both on browser and ios app)

- I have recovered all deleted playlists and none of them were pinned.

- I went through spotify support and they were unable to help.

- I have used the spotify test account and it was able to pin four playlists, my account does not.

Hi there @Roxient37,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

Great troubleshooting so far! We appreciate all the details you sent, it helps us avoid repeating steps.

Just to check, have you double checked in all the devices you use? Sometimes there's a pinned item in one device, and it's not syncing correctly in the other devices. If you did that, try going to your Account Overview page and Sign out everywhere. The info might sync across devices after doing that. Additionally, remove access to all the apps you've connected to your account from here. You can easily reconnect your apps anytime. Once done, log back in and check if that makes a difference.

If nothing helps, could you send us a screenshot where we can see the playlists you have pinned and the message you get?

We'll be here.

Hey @Roxient37,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Would you mind trying to pin the 4th one from a different device? You can try it from the desktop app or the web player for example.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hi, as I stated in my original post, I already tried that

Hey @Roxient37,

Thanks for the reply!

We looked into this and there seem to be two things we can try here to hopefully resolve this issue 🙂

See if toggling 'Show Local Files' off would make a difference. This should theoretically refresh the pin count.
And if that doesn't help, apart from going for a complete clean reinstall of the app, keep in mind that you can also unpin the Liked Songs playlist, as it stays at the top of the list by default.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted 🙌🏼

I actually only turned local files on to see if that would help, this issue started before the toggle was on.

Also... No, my like list does not stay at the top unless it's pinned 😭

and I've already done 2 clean reinstalls - one on PC and one on mobile

Hey @Roxient37,

Thanks for testing!

Looks like the one extra pin is hiding somewhere in Your Library. You mentioned you have gone through all items, but have you tried swiping right (or right-clicking on desktop) each of them to see if the option to unpin the selected item would show up? If it doesn't and you only see the "pin" option, it's still worth trying to pin the item to see if it would have a reverse effect on one of them.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm still having issues unfortunately. Is there any other way to fix it?

Hello my spotify absolutely randomly decided to fix this issue. I have done nothing different but suddenly it's working.
