iOS crashing on startup, midway through first song

iOS crashing on startup, midway through first song

Currently using iOS v8.9.38.455.
The app crashes midway through the first song upon startup. Restarting the app then replays the "crashed" song from the beginning. The behavior occurs maybe 70% of the time, and occurs on my favorite (and largest) playlist: "Bub's Dubs". Haven't seen this problem on other playlists.

Hey @bjpcjp,

Thanks for reaching out!

We could start with some troubleshooting steps here such as clearing the app cache or performing a complete clean reinstall of the app itself but I do suspect that this issue might be related to the size of the playlist.

How many items does it contain? If it's in the thousands it might be a good idea to try the following steps:

  • Copy its content to a new playlist and see if the issue would still appear there
  • If it does, you can try splitting the playlist as a workaround to still play the songs but prevent the crashes

Let us know how it goes! 🙂

Howdy!

Playlist size is my first suspect too. 5000 tracks. (It was my first when I
started my account.) I have others, but this one is effectively my “liked
songs” list.

Hey there @bjpcjp,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

In that sense, we'd like to check, have you try what @Vasil mentioned above? If you haven't, remember:

  • You can create a copy of your playlist, by opening it and selecting its three-dot menu. There, locate the option Add to other playlist, then select the New playlist button at the top.
  • You can split the playlist, in other words, you can select chunks of this playlist to create new ones that are smaller. To do it, we'd recommend using the desktop app:
    • Open the playlist and go to the middle.
    • Press shift while you click on the middle song of the playlist, that way you're going to select all that chunk.
    • After that, right-click over a selected song with your mouse to open the menu in which you can locate Add to other playlist option.
    • Create a new playlist.

Give this a try and let us know how it goes. If this continues to happen afterwards, we'd like you to check and send us:

  • Make sure you have enough storage space. We recommend at least 1GB free memory.
  • We'd like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/OS update.

Keep us in the loop!

hi @alejaR, hi @vasil,

I'm using a cache clear as step #1. Today I've launched the iOS app 3
times and started streaming from the suspect playlist. It's too early
to declare this issue 'closed' so stay tuned. TY!
