iOS issue - Spotify connect overriding volume on iPhone

Solved!

iOS issue - Spotify connect overriding volume on iPhone

Plan - Premium

Country - NZ

Device - iPhone 12

Operating System - iOS 15.0.2

Hi there,

I use Spotify connect to connect my personal laptop (PC A) to a computer that has speakers (PC B) that plays the music, it works pretty well. I also have Spotify on my iPhone, which is generally closed whilst this is happening. I've had Spotify for a number of years now, but the following has been happening for ~2 months:

During the period when I'm using Spotify Connect - when I'm on my iPhone occasionally a volume bar will appear, that appears to show the volume of Spotify on PC B...

If I volume up/down on my iPhone it will change the volume that's playing on Spotify, affecting the sound output of PC B.

If I'm doing something on my phone, watching something or playing a game, it will jump to the volume of Spotify (normally max) - which is an inconvenience to say the least.

This has no impact on PC A - it doesn't change the volume of my laptop.

I understand if I'm actively using Spotify on my iPhone, where you can see the volume bar, this could be useful. But the volume of Spotify shouldn't override/replace the volume on my iPhone.

If I make sure Spotify is closed/off on my iPhone, it still happens.

I turned off Settings > Devices > Devices Lock Screen - what I saw in another thread.

Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Sam

Hey there @Leumas87,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

We understand this may not be ideal, but at the moment this feature cannot be completely deactivated. As a workaround, you can disable the Spotify Connect functionality by manually putting the Spotify app in Offline Mode from within the app Settings when not in use.

There is also this idea to allow the service to be turned on/off at will from within the app. Despite its current status, you can still add your vote to it and if there are any developments or changes on this matter, we'll share them over there.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply @CarlosE

Happy with your suggestion here - the issue tends to arise during long periods of no phone use, so won't be too much of a nuisance turning Spotify offline/online.
Considering the idea was logged 7 years ago and is closed, I won't hold my breath - have voted for it though.

Thanks again,
Sam
