spotify for iphone 4 / ios 7

hi. i know this seems to be an ongoing topic, but i can't seem to figure it out. i have spotify premium and when i try to install the app on my iphone 4 with ios 7 it keeps telling me that i need at least ios 8, which my phone won't let me update to. how can i install an older version of spotify, which older version would be compatible or are there any other solutions. as this seems to be ongoing since at least 2013 there must be some kind of solution by now...!? thanks, tina.

i figured it out. if you have the same problem, here's how to do it:

download the spotify app into itunes ON YOUR COMPUTER first. you can then find it in itunes on your phone and click on the little cloud sign. it will then give you the option to download a version that's compatible with your phone. that's it. works fine.

unfortunately there is no compatible version to be found in the app store and no possibility to download the app into itunes on your phone. i did find several solutions in the forum here, but either they didn't work or the description of how to do it were very confusing. good luck. thanks.

It works for me. Dowload from itunes on computer was refused but... curiously, dowload from itunes on iphone works after try on the computer. It asks for older version then work on my iphone 4 in OS 7.

It does not work for me. I can't find spotify in itunes when I go there after downloding it into itunes on the computer. All i get  in itunes on my Iphone (iOS 7) is music by spotify.

Can't install Spotify on my Iphone (iOS 7) is still an issue. Does this mean i cant use it on my iphone6 - which was the main purpose...

I found out, how to find the spotify app on your Iphone after downloading it on your Mac. It is not in Itunes, it is in the App Store:

1. Open the App Store app.
2. On an iPhone or iPod touch: Tap Updates, then tap Purchased.
   On an iPad: Tap Purchased.
3. Tap "Not on This [device]."
4. Find the app that you want to download, then tap It will ask you here if you want to download a previous version. Click ok/download. The app downloads to your device.
5. Thats it!

like normal with itunes on windows its not easy (understatement), my journey (some translation from dutch, sorry) with a iphone 4 on ios 7.1.2

- tried to install spotify on phone via appstore: software to old

- found it in the store on the computer, download, tried syncing

- had to first authorize the computer

- did all kinds of syncing

- under summary > apps, all kinds of 'install', will install, apply, done, sync

- spotify not visible on iphone

- for some reason i try to install again via app store on iphone and suddenly it now offers me to download an older version that is compatible and it installed.

bottome line: keep fooling around with all options and who knows - our family is  migrating to android...

This worked for me.

Just got refurbished iphone 4, sick of not being able to listen to any music. followed this solution and now i have older version of spotify on my ancient ios 7.1.2 THANKS

If u goto iTunes and select download compatible version it will install the version for your phone

Since Apple eliminated apps from itunes, it is no longer possible to install apps in itunes. Do you have an alternative way. Here also old iphone 4 which i want to keep using.

i have just had a look on itunes and for me nothing has changed at all. i can still download apps there (with my computer) and then go into the app store on my iphone 4, where the apps will show up with the little cloud sign. if i then click on that, it asks me, if i want to install the last compatible version of the app and it downloads the app onto my phone. if there is a compatible version that is. it obviously doesn't work with newer apps, but spotify worked fine for me.

Have you recently updated iTunes? I was able to successfully use this
workaround in the past. Now, apps no longer appear in our iTunes. So
disappointing!

no, I haven't updated itunes, but it's good to know, cause now I probably won't 😉

I guess they just want to force everyone to buy newer iphones...

I do not see anywhere in iTunes where I can purchase or download apps ...

this only works on an older version of itunes (before updates)... it used to have the 'app store' right underneath the apple logo.
