spotify still uses mobile data even when blocked in settings

In the iOS Settings, under Mobile Data, I blocked Spotify from using mobile data. Although, as soon as i'm off my Wifi, spotify starts to use mobile data, which i can easily prove in the mobile data statistics. It seems to be a pretty old or recurring issue. What is going on there? I can find reports back from 2016 talking about this kind of issue. Spotify keeps sucking my prepaid budget... and I'm in a paid spotify plan...

Hi!

In iOS Settings, Mobile Data and at the bottom of that page - you have a setting called “Wi-Fi Assistance”. If this setting is activated, try to turn it off. 

This is a feature that allow the phone to use mobile data instead of Wi-Fi if the phone thinks that the Wi-Fi connection is to poor or slow. This might be the case.
