AUDIOBOOK TIME RUNS OUT WITHIN 10 HOURS!

AUDIOBOOK TIME RUNS OUT WITHIN 10 HOURS!

Plan - premium

Country - USA

Device - iPad&iPhone

My Question or Issue

I have had Spotify premium for a long time and have recently started using the audiobook feature. Supposedly this feature comes with 15 hours of audiobook time… I have yet to get through an 8 hour book before I get prompted to buy more time to finish my book… you can look at my account. I have purchased additional audiobook time more than once, and have only listened to a few books less than 10 hours each. I just listen to my first audiobook in a month and was told I ran out of time seven hours in to a 10 hour book…. Which I don’t know if you understand math, but that does not add up to 15 hours of listening time. 7.5 hrs is not equal to 15hrs. That is not, including how fast I listen to the book that is simply normal time. The audiobook is listed at. Please fix this.

I have also had this issue. I've listened to 7 hours and have run out of time.

I'm currently online to Spotify support (and have been for an hour and a half now) who are currently being less than helpful and just repeating that I have used up my allowance for the month.

If I get any kind of resolution I will update it here!

This is also happening to me. I checked my account and hours tracker and it's only 10 hours used of 15, yet I cannot resume my audiobook. Is the tracking just problematic? I can't even use the last 5hours I've paid for. Uploaded screenshots, clear as day there is a problem with Spotify. Unless each book has a 10hr limit or something.

This article is no help. I've been listening to a 14 hour and 13min long book, the only one I've ever had on Spotify, and it cut me short with 54min left saying I used up my 15 hour limit. How is that possible??

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies and apologies for the radio silence on our end.

In order for us to report this to our tech team, we'd need the info requested previously by @Ivelina along with a few more details:

  • The make and model of the devices you've listened on
  • Link(s) to the audiobook(s) that was/were streamed.
  • The date on which you've received the notification.

We'd like to point out again that repeating/rewinding a chapter still counts towards your total listening time and that we count the hours of audiobook content (played at normal speed), not the hours spent listening (i.e. 10 hours of content at 2x speed is still 10 hours of listening time), so please confirm that there's still a noticeable discrepancy even when those factors are accounted for.

Thank you again for your help in investigating this!

The same thing is happening to me as well. I don't use spotify on my computer at all, only on my own phone and I'm the only person using it. I've listened to 3 hours of a book so far, and I rewind a bit here and there, but not DOUBLE time. My account is telling me I have used 6 hours so far and MAXIMUM it would be a few minutes over 3 hours. I've noticed this in past months as well. Time is legitimately logging in double time. I don't use it when I drive, falling asleep, nothing. PLEASE fix it. It's clearly an actual issue when tons of people are experiencing it. We're not idiots.

The same thing has frequently happened to me. For instance, I’m currently listening to a 9 hour audiobook. I listened to 10 chapters on the 31st, so that’s with October hours. I tried to listen to the last 12 chapters between last night & today but it cut me off with 2 chapter left. I had less than 5 hours left on the audiobook, and I listened at a speed of 1.9. But somehow I used 15 hours? What a scam.

This 100 percent is happening to me. I have spent like 4 months subscription costs if I had used other apps by buying more hours when I only listen to 30-45mins a night AND I use sleep timer religiously. I am so annoyed that I am now downloading audible because spotify is ripping me off. I have not even made it out of 4 chapters of a book and it asked me to buy more.....Little Women is dense but it aint 10hours of listening for 4.5 chapters dense.

My plan just renewed yesterday but it says I’m out of listening hours. If I check my status it says I have 14 available

This happens to me every month as well and support just say they have checked and it’s all fine. The fact you have to go to such lengths just to find your used hours and that it is always measured in hours rather than giving a precise breakdown shows a lack of transparency on Spotify’s part. It’s just not good enough, nor is asking users to provide reams of information for them to investigate. It is clearly not tracked accurately.

Same problem here- topped up accounts for additional 10 hours - got 5!

using version: 8.9.86.419

here is receipt of my top up - used maybe 7hrs max and now told I have used up all. Is it because I am using on my phone app and the time keeps ticking? Only listen to audiobooks when driving.
don’t use sleep function, have not adjusted speed.

I am super annoyed, as last month I ran out of listening time (15hours on Premium) so waited for the new month and an additional 15hours to come in… finished my book, which had 3 hours left. Then today I started listening to a new book…2 hours in and it’s stopped playing, as allegedly I’ve reached my 15hour limit again!
I’m positive I’ve only listened to 6-7hours max, if you include replaying parts etc. Has anyone else had this happen? I’ve contacted Spotify to complain and they couldn’t give me any detail about my usage or have a way to investigate my complaint.

I bought 15 hours for an 11 hour book, and once again have been told I'm out of hours. I use sleep timer religiously (especially because of the annoying way podcasts never stop queuing without it).

Please advise or refund.
