Can't redeem gift card even though I have Premium Individual account

Can't redeem gift card even though I have Premium Individual account

Plan:   Premium Individual

Country:   USA (card purchased in USA)

 

Device

Doesn't honor gift card even when entering from Spotify.com/redeem on different devices (iPhone, PC, Macbook)

 

My Question or Issue

Followed directions on the gift card. Read the troubleshooting tips. Card still says that it cannot be applied to account.

Thanks for getting back.

 

In that case, it should be possible to redeem a Gift Card on your account, so I recommend making sure you're actually logged into the right account when attempting to redeem it.

 

Also, keep in mind that there's a redemption limit. After 4 attempts, you'll get an error message. If you do, you can try again after 24-48 hours.

We've checked that we are logged into the correct account (we even took a screenshot of account type to be sure it was Premium Individual). We've made sure that we do not exceed the 4 tries so we do not get locked out. No matter which web browser we use, no matter that we have tried on 3 different devices (from different internet providers), we get the above-quoted message. Is there any support department at Spotify that can address the issues with their gift cards? In an internet search we can see that several users have the same issue.

P.S. Keep in mind that Gift Cards cannot be applied to accounts with an active discount such as Premium Student, Premium Family, Premium Duo, or trial offers.

For those still struggling with this same issue, I am working with support. Their first suggestion was to try to redeem the code using a Private Browser or Incognito window.  My first try was with Firefox/Private Window but I still get the same error code. I'll update the steps as I work with Support.

Well everyone -- Spotify online still won't honor the gift card no matter how I try to redeem it. If you're thinking about getting gift cards for Spotify, I strongly suggest you don't.  Could not have given my teen a more useless gift.  I'm working with @SpotifyCares & they are good at responding but this is really one of the most disappointing gifts I've ever given someone. I've tried everything suggested including 4 different devices/operating systems, 3 different internet browsers, private/incognito windows, PIN code, # on register receipt -- there's nothing further I can do. @SpotifyCares now says wait 24 hours and try again, but we've been down that path before several times now. They may try on their end so who knows, maybe there's some magic switch. I've confirmed my account should accept gift cards as it's a Premium Individual account and the gift card is for 1 month of Premium Spotify Service.  

I had the same issue. It is because Spotify has an issue in their system that gift card codes are not able to be applied to existing accounts. They had to cancel my existing Premium Individual subscription and then use the gift card to applied to one month of a Premium Individual subscription that will then expire in 1 month, and then I will have to re-active/start my Premium Individual subscription again... Definitely something that Spotify needs to fix. Don't sell gift cards that claim to be useable on active memberships if they are not - or fix your system. 

Also, please train your customer support representatives to ask customers before just canceling their subscriptions. My rep did not ask, she just canceled my membership and then I lost access to Hulu- again without asking. Incredibly unprofessional.

With so many people having the exact same issue for months (possibly even years), it is beginning to look like an intentional issue rather than a problem Spotify is not aware of or does not know how to resolve. Does not speak well of Spotify's integrity.

REPORT THEM To... 

A. Your state's Attorney General. There are state laws to abide by gift card usage in the US. The AG is state run department who WILL come for Spotify for breaking the law. Not a single company wants to be on the AG's s list so report them to yours. 

B. Idk how Sweden works but you might be able to report them to their Prosecutor General as well. 

 

Report Spotify for not honoring gift cards. 

 

 

 

Hi all. I'm experiencing the same issue. I have a Premium Individual plan and can't redeem a gift card for myself. Have any of you tried changing your plan to Spotify Free and trying again after the payment date (i.e. after the plan rolls back to Free)?

I've done nothing different for 6 years ,I buy a individual monthly gift card follow the instructions enter code and get stuck there because of them then you want me to troubleshoot what you're the fault of RIDICULOUS! I've had times where it took 3 days to get service and other times I give up and go back 2 weeks later and unbeknownst to me I've lost 2 weeks because I wasn't notified. Very tired of chasing
