Remove "special character" from username

Solved!

Remove "special character" from username

Not sure when this started (I believe it was after the update which allows you to see top monthly artists on your profile) but the problem I seem to have is the "see all" option on my profile fails to load for anything - followers, following, public playlists, etc.

This problem persists on both desktop and web player, but I have found a work around on the web player. The issue is, when clicking "see all", the generated URL is invalid - this is because I have the special character # in my username. By manually typing in the URL in the correct format, these pages will load, but obviously this only works on the web player. As I mainly use the desktop version (as do my friends), I would like this to work without needing to type a URL.

I am aware that you can change your display name, but not your username. Does anyone know what else I could do to fix this, or some way I could remove the # from my username?

Hi there @avsiojiwefniows,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

In this case, since usernames can't be changed, you'd need to create a new account. We suggest reaching out to our Support team through any of these channels so they can give you a hand with this and you don't lose your content and your discount.

Hope it gets sorted out soon. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.

Cheers!

Hey @avsiojiwefniows,

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Glad to hear that it worked out and you can use the option See All.

@avsiojiwefniows Hey, I'm currently having the exact same issue in the Android app (I also have a special character in my username). Who did you contact about your bug to get it fixed?

The original issue was fixed on the web player and desktop, however the special still cause problems elsewhere in Spotify’s system (e.g. sharing profile links).

If you want a permanent fix you will have to create a new account, if you contact support through https://www.spotify.com/about-us/contact/ , they can help you transfer any subscription, but you will lose followers and playlists.
