I like to use my Android TV to control the music streamed to my chromecast. I can do this from my phone but not from the TV app.
Anyone else want this feature? I want to remote control other spotify connect / chromecast instances just like I can with the mobile and desktop app. Only I cannot do it from the TV app. It seems to work more as a standalone app. It also doesn't recognize if Spotify is already playing on another device.
Hi @BurningWheels,
Thanks for reaching out about this.
Since you're streaming (Casting) the Spotify app from your phone to the TV via Chromecast you won't be able to control it through the TV app, because those are 2 separate instances of the application.
You can either stream music directly from the Spotify TV app if your device allows it or stream music from the mobile/desktop app to the TV via Chromecast, which in this sense works like an external speaker and does not activate the TV app itself.
Hope this clears things up. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have more questions.
Hi @BurningWheels,
Thanks for the clarification.
If you have connected your Chromecast speaker to your TV and the TV is using it as a default sound playback device you should be able to hear what you're playing from your Spotify TV app on the speaker. In that case whatever you play on the TV app should be streamed to the speaker, regardless if it's Spotify or another service. However, you won't be able to simultaneously control the app from your phone, your TV and the smart speaker itself, because you can essentially cast the app from your phone to the TV or the Speaker, but not from the phone and the TV to the speaker simultaneously, if that what you mean. Apologies if we haven't understood you correctly.
Hi! Sorry to tag onto this old topic! But to clarify on what I believe he was wanting, I think he wanted the ability to skip/pause/etc chromecast devices (specifically groups, which TVs can't be a part of). This is doable from the app on devices like the nest hub, or an iPad but not from within the Spotify TV app.
