My Question or Issue

I've recently moved over to Spotify, however i'm having a lot of trouble adding music which isn't available on Spotify (such as albums i've bought elsewhere, e.g. from BandCamp) to my library. I have followed the instructions given here but local files added to a playlist show up on my phone as greyed out. Attempting to download them results in an '!' being displayed next to the songs in the playlist.

I have ensured that both devices (desktop and phone) are on the same network and that the network type is set to 'private', along with turning off my firewall. I have also tried connecting my desktop to a wifi hotspot from my phone. I have tried reinstalling the desktop and phone apps and logging in and out of both, but nothing is working.

Some users seem to report an option to 'Sync from desktop' in the phone app settings, however I have no options at all for local files in my phone app. Is downloading local files on android still a feature?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey @RavenousCorvid,

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community!

Apologies for the delayed response, we just came across this thread.

As we haven’t seen any similar posts about this recently, could you let us know if you’re still having troubles with this?

If you do, some of your files may be protected in restricted formats. Install QuickTime on your computer to allow most of these tracks to be played on Spotify.

  • .mp3
  • .m4p (unless it contains video)
  • .mp4 (if QuickTime is installed on your computer)

As a heads-up, the iTunes lossless format (M4A) isn't supported. It'd also be great if you double-checked  the source of the files is legal since files or downloads from illegal sources are not allowed.

Let us know how it goes! We’ll be right here if you still need help 🙂
