Half of the songs in my downloaded Liked songs don't play when tapped. The song bar disappears when they are tapped. But I can play those same songs from the Search. Non-downloaded playlists work. I am not in Offline Mode. I tried forcing the app to stop, clearing cache, restarting, and reinstalling. Nothing.

Hey @rpmur,

Thanks for reaching out!

Is this behaviour observed only with your 'Liked' playlist or with any playlist downloaded for offline listening?
And is the same behaviour observed when you're offline?

On a further note, you've done some great troubleshooting so far! Could you just please confirm you've gone through these steps when clearing your cached data and these steps when performing a reinstall?
If not, please go through them and let us know if anything changes on your end.

Should the issue persist, we'd appreciate it if you could also send us a link to a video recording of the issue.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply! 🙂

Seems to only happen with the Liked playlist. It still happens when offline. Yes, I followed those troubleshooting steps.

Recording a video is too large to attach. When I click on a song, nothing happens. No bar at the bottom. Around 1/10 songs do play, the bar shows up. Then I click on the next song, music stops and bar goes away.

Thanks for the update, @rpmur.

Does the same thing happen on a different device? Are you using an SD-card on your mobile phone? If so, cache that's stored on it can cause different issues with Spotify's performance and we recommend removing the card, giving the app a clean reinstall once again and then try to download the music directly onto the phone storage and play it offline to see if that'll make any difference (without the SD-card in your phone).

If the issue persists, you can send us a video of the issue via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Thanks for the cooperation!

Only happens on my Pixel 6. No SD card. It happens as visually described. Nothing happens when tapping a song. If there was a song playing, then with tapping the faulty song the bar goes away and music stops playing. Thanks

Hey @rpmur,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

If possible, could you ask a friend or a family member to log into their own Spotify account on your device to see if the same thing happens to them?

Also, it seems like a new app version recently was released, could you double-check if there's an update available from your end?

Let us know how it goes.

This is still happening with version 8.9.6.458.

I haven't gotten someone to log in on my device.

Hey @rpmur

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Would you mind checking if the same happens if you log into a different device with your account?

Also, it'd be helpful if you could ask someone to log in to their account on your Pixel 6 to check if they can replicate this behavior. This would help us determine if the issue is account-related.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

This does not happen on my laptop with my account.

It is still happening on my pixel 6.

Hi there @rpmur

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you check if the OS of your phone has any pending updates? Also, would you mind giving a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens?

On another note, sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening would come in handy. No worries, you can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be waiting for your reply.

Somehow it works after reinstalling again.

Hi @rpmur

Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know.

Great news! Give us a shout if it starts misbehaving again, we'll be happy to help.

Cheers 🙂

It stopped working again. Most downloaded songs don't play, offline mode or not.

OS is fully updated. I tried multiple networks.

This is ridiculous. Pixel 6 is a common phone. Really disappointed in Spotify.

Hey @rpmur,

Thanks for the update.

Can you make sure Spotify is excluded from any battery-optimizing or cache-clearing apps? Since a clean reinstall helped the last time, can you try doing one again by following these steps

Let us know how it goes.

It is excluded from battery optimization but the issue persists.

It's now happening even if I don't download my liked songs. Reinstalling fixes it temporarily but it came back.

  • It only happens with the liked playlist.
  • It happens whether the liked playlist is downloaded or not.
  • It happens when offline too.
  • I have gone through those steps.
  • I won't record my screen. It happens exactly as I describe: nothing happens when I click on a song.

Some questions for you:

  • Have you noticed this issue with other devices?
  • Is this bug being worked on?
  • Is there a timeline for a fix?

Thank you.

Turning off Smart Shuffle seems to resolve the issue. Songs play.

Hey @rpmur,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

We've tried to replicate this internally, but everything seems to be working fine on our end. We can also confirm that the right folks are aware of the situation and waiting for more reports so they can continue working on a solution for this issue. We don't have a specific date for this to be resolved, but we hope it will be as soon as possible.

We'd also recommend having your Spotify app updated, so you don't miss any improvements coming your way.

If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.
