My Question or Issue
Why does connect or working on my Google Hub gen 2 anymore. Working perfect until today. When try to cast music it buffer and freeze black screen on the Google hub screen. You can hear the famous connection sound on the Google hub when you click the cast to Google hub but nothing more happens. Apps are updated and re installed (Spotify, Google Home and Google Hub factory reinstalled ). Spotify account re linked on Google Home app. Both phone cast activation and through my PC browser ends with same negative result. Our Sonos speaker at home work fine. Any idea or clue what it could be? Your update was recently 15 Dec and Google Home was 15 Nov.
Best regards
Johan
Solved! Go to Solution.
But I use spotify directly via my google home hub devices. So there is no app with updates. Somebody in the google community wrote that he tried a different account and than it works. So it seems to be an account problem on spotify side.
It works !!! 🥳
Thanks for this @thora !
How I did:
1. Go to Google Home app remove link for music of your
Spotify account.
2. LogOut on Spotify account and LogIn with an different account
3. Go to Google Home app link music to Spotify and your other account.
4. Start music on Spotify and cast to Google hub
5. Go back to Spotify and LogOut. LogIn with your ordinary account.
6. Go in to Google home app and remove Spotify link for music. After removal Re-link with your ordinary Spotify account again.
7. Hopefully it works ! Good Luck 🍀
This seems systemic. I can't use Spotify Connect or cast to any device in my house. I can't do it via my phone or any computer. Guessing something is down or broken at Spotify. Only native connections are working (like Sonos). Maybe a Spotify - Google issue?
I've got also a problem. Spotify doesn't work on my google hub devices since yesterday. You can see the Spotify logo start screen and the the black screen. Restart devices, relink account und reboot WLAN doesn't help.
Exactly the same issue and behavior for me. Work perfectly until today than totally stopped working. Must be SW problem after update.
Google update in November and Spotify recently 15 dec. I feel it hard to think that this type of issues just appear without any update. My feeling some update issue but you never know. I would like to roll back to the old version of Spotify and try.

Do you have hub gen 2 ? That is something to try change to other account , but I would also hope to jump back to my normal account after 👍 Do You have link to Google forum there this was mentioned ?
It works !!! 🥳

Still not working. When I follow the steps above to link a “free” account, it works on Google Home. But when I relink my Premium account, it gives me the black screen.
I followed these suggestions and interestingly, it worked for my free account but did not work when I switched back to the premium account. There's definitely a Spotify issue going on.
I use premium family and flipping between my accounts when it works. So I don't know if it have been working with free account. I hope it solves for you some way. For sure there is some bug in the software .
Update: I ended up chatting with Spotify support. Although we didn't uncover what the specific issue was, it appeared to be tied specifically to my premium membership account. We looked at app permissions, compared to a free account I had created (which was working fine) and also tested another premium login provided by support which worked fine. At the end of it, we created a new premium account, transferred my data over and deleted my old premium account. It took about 2 hours to test different things and go through the process of creating a new account. Not the most convenient but for those that end up with my situation, it might be the last resort to actually get things working again.
I have the same issue, not works 😞 so switching to free account was fine, reconnecting to paid/ my primary again not works
I can only assume is server side since it started by its own. I have the same problem. Will probably wait it out, but Spotify needs to know about this issue and fix it asap. Its almost Christmas and we'll need the music.
Doesn't work for me. I tried another account and it works. When I go back to my first account there is black screen again. Both accounts are free accounts.
Ok, not sure what happed but it looks like it works again.
I have spend yesterday about 2h with spotify support, they gave me temporary solution, but today it works again! so issue solved
