Has a clean reinstall ever helped anyone solve any problem at all?

I am asking because every time I have a technical problem, usually caused by a bug in the app, I am being told to do this. Regardless of what the problem has been, it has never ever worked, it has only caused me extra work, having to adjust the settings the way I want them once more and download all my files once more.

This advice hss never helped me, only caused me extra trouble. What HAS worked is waiting for the next app update, as the bug has at least usually been fixed then.

So instead of telling people to do a clean reinstall, the standard message should be something like we aren't aware (or are already aware of this. It sounds like a bug and we will pass it on to our developer team.
