Hey,
I'm using a Spotify Premium account on my android device.
Every time I try to play an album on the app it automatically chooses to use shuffle.
I know that I need to avoid clicking the big 'Shuffle Play' button and press on a specific song on the album instead, but it still automatically shuffles the album.
Then I need to press on the green arrows things on the buttom so it can be played by order.
And I need to do that every time I want to listen to an album. Imagine how annoying it is.
How do I circumvent this?
Thanks,
Fae.
I have never in my life used a shuffle feature, and I don't see why I would. If I listen to an album, I wanna listen to it in the order it was intended. If I make my own playlist based on my own preference, I wanna listen to it in the order it was intended. If I DO wanna use shuffle, I would select it myself.
I'm paying for this damn thing, and it's pushing a "feature" on me that I can't turn off, something I have never wanted, and something I don't think any serious music fan would want as an automatically-on thing.
Now, I'm already paying for YouTube Music, since I can access albums that aren't available on Spotify (I uploaded them myself). I'd switch to YT Music, but the problem is that they, too, have an equally annoying always-on thing that I can't turn off; once your album ends, YT Music will keep playing music based on algorithms. No point trying to fall asleep listening to that fave album of yours, you'll wake up in the middle of the night wondering why some random song is playing. And you can't turn it off! Even though you're spending money on it!
So, Spotify, which is notorious for not caring about the musicians whose music they play, has decided to screw over the listener as well as the musicians. Wow.
Hey folks,
Thanks for your posts in the Community.
Currently, if the Shuffle option is enabled by you or any other party, like the Google Clock app or any external device, it'll stay on for the rest of your playback until you manually turn it off.
We understand where you're coming from and we'll make sure to pass your feedback on to the teams in charge.
You can also ad your +Vote to this idea if you find it useful. Even though the status is Closed, it's still open for voting.
Cheers!
We have tried everything you have suggested. NO ONE has been able to get ANY of your suggestions to work. PERIOD. FULL STOP. If it happens to every one of us, it is reproducible on your end. Please just stop saying it’s not.
I believe the posters who have said that Spotify intends for shuffle to be the default because they must pay artist’s more money if tracks are played in order. I have not seen any mod deny this. They have certainly not provided proof, as they’ve repeatedly asked us to do.
Please Spotify. Just give us a straight answer so that we can make informed choices, rather than just dropping Spotify out of frustration.
If I go to an "artist radio" the "Play" button has a shuffle symbol built-in with no way to remove it. Even if I go to the playlist and rearrange it, it still plays random songs next. However, if I go to a playlist like "Daily Mix" then the "Play" button is regular with no shuffle symbol. WTH??? So frustrating.
Hey there @ARP_123,
Thanks for the post.
There are different play options in curated playlists and autogenerated playlists.
If you want to play the songs in order, just play the first song. Make sure that the shuffle icon is gray in the Now playing view and the songs should play in order.
Cheers.
Hey @ARP_123,
Thanks for the reply.
Could you let us know if this is happening on any Artist Radio, or just a specific one, and if so, send us a link/URI so we can check it on our end?
Cheers.
No it isn't only happening after the alarm. As of yesterday, Spotify mobile decided I want to listen to everything on shuffle all the time. When I listen on my desktop I don't have this issue. I have a galaxy note 9.
As of yesterday, Spotify mobile decided that every time I hit the play button for an album, it auto-shuffles. It's never done this before, but now it applies to everything. Who listens to individual albums on shuffle? Like why is it even possible for Spotify to auto-select shuffle in the first place? No alarms were involved. It doesn't do this on my desktop either. I have a galaxy note 9 with verizon.
Hi @TraumaticE,
Thank you for posting in this thread.
Let us know if you've done any troubleshooting on your phone, this way we won't give you repeated steps.
Also, can you log in your phone with another Premium account, such as a friend's or a family member's to see if the issue persists?
We'll be on the lookout.
I had the same problems as the other contributors to this thread. I pressed the play-button, and the album I wanted to listen to was shuffled. I tried the complete reinstall and it didn’t work! The reading a reply from a moderator, I realised that the play button actually means “play shuffle”! So obviously pressing play doesn’t work. Apparently playing just the first item on the album list of songs will start the entire album.
It has taking me so long to find the reason why couldn’t turn off automatic shuffle on Spotify. Whoever decided that the play icon should mean play-shuffle took a courageous decision- and in my case it was a gamble that didn’t pay off. I’m going to quit Spotify and find another music service that less creative in its user interface. They all have the same albums anyway.
Hit here @Elandersen,
Thank you for your reply and feedback.
We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall and we’re constantly aiming to improve our features. We’re sorry that this means you’re not able to use Spotify like you wish to do at the moment.
You can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.
Once again - thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
Take care!
By all appearances, Spotify does not consider this to be an issue at all, and considers their shuffle play "feature" to be working as designed. Rather than acknowledging the mass confusion and frustration they are causing and doing something about it, they continue to tell paying subscribers "don't press the big green play button" even though that is the obvious thing for users to do. Why on earth would anyone expect "shuffle play" to be the default behavior when pressing the play button on a music app? It makes absolutely no sense. The fact that Spotify implemented this terrible (TERRIBLE!) feature without giving premium users an option to disable it doesn't seem to be a concern for them. At least I am still on my free trial and don't have to pay for this nonsense.
WE ARE THE CUSTOMER. WE DONT LIKE THAT DAMN FOOL AUTO SHUFFLE "FEATURE". WE LIKE MUSIC AND WE LIKE TO LISTEN ALBUMS IN THE AUTHORS ORDER. PLEASE FIX THIS OR WE WILL HAVE TO CHANGE TO ANOTHER APP.
I’m taking about this, and maybe they are too but I don’t want it to auto shuffle it, I’m a premium user and this auto shuffle is kinda annoying me, I just wanna press the play button and go but it won’t let me disable this or give me an option to. How do I turn this off ?
That’s the thing - you can’t turn it off 🙄 You have to go to the album and then play the first item in the list by selecting it. That will automatically start playback of the whole album in order. You don’t use the big, green button at all…
I’m done with Spotify…..you’re not actually listening or attempting to fix the shuffle issue. I prefer to play an album or playlist in order, and this should be the default position of Spotify, after all an album is created by an artist in a specific order to reflect their creative thought processes, feelings and trying to get a message across . Stop meddling. It’s not spotifys choice to impose how we listen to an album, we should as I said by default be able to listen to how the album or playlist was created. I have tried the various fixes suggested in this post to ‘fix’ the shuffle problem, and none work. Please don’t insult my intelligence or anyone else’s by suggesting another attampt at a hard or soft reset. Just take time to listen properly to what your customers are saying and fix the issue quietly , without fuss, and give back the experience of a shuffle free listen, and put the choice back for the customer as to when or if they want to use the shuffle button. I come from the vinyl world where shuffle wasn’t really an option, and music listening was a real pleasure , not a chore. Fix the shuffle issue for that reason - pleasure. I am done and will no longer use Spotify, it’s no longer a pleasure.
Really, really, really hate it when there's an easy issue to fix but a company ignores it. Despite user complaints. Just fix it already....I dare you to find one user who actually wants the Shuffle function the way it is. Artists too, hate it because it distorts their creations. Why antagonize us???
