My Question or Issue
I can see all my history in "recently played" on my smartphone. I can even see all songs I played in the car with the Spotify app of Android Automotive AAOS (standalone app) on the smartphone.
However, I can't see any history in "recently played" in the AAOS Spotify app. It just says "no media".
Also, only half of my library is shown in the car Spotify app.
Interesting enough, all that works when I use a different Spotify account. Then, "recently played" is perfectly updated in the car as well as on the smartphone.
Is there an issue with my account data?
Hey @Scorgan,
Thanks for the post and for sharing what troubleshooting you've gone through.
You can try to Log out Everywhere and back in twice in a row. This will force sync your account with the servers.
It would also be worth re-installing the app on your car's onboard system.
The issue could be related to your account, but it's always better to rule out all other possibilities 🙂
Keep us posted.
Hey Alex
Thanks for that hints. Unfortunately it didnt't work.
I logged out everywhere using the respective function of my account. That works on all devices except the car app on AAOS. The account keeps logged in there. So I logged off manually each time I "logged out everywhere" on the web part. Sadly, no success even after multiple attempts.
I deinstalled the app from the car and made sure to repeat that for every car user profile. But reinstallation didn't fix it either.
In the car, I can only see 40% of my stored discs. The history is still not updated.
It seems to me as if the AAOS car app has issues to handle larger profiles and gets some kind of overflow in such case.
Any more ideas?
Hey @Scorgan,
Thanks for the reply and the description of the troubleshooting you've gone through.
The Spotify apps for car onboard systems are deveoped by the device manufacturer using Spotify API. So it is very possible that there is a limitation set on how many items can be loaded in the Spotify Library while using the car's system. This is most likely done in order to assure faster loading time.
In this case, we'd recommend reaching out to the manufacturer, as they'd be able to give you more accurate info if that's the case.
Keep us posted on how you get on.
Thanks, Alex.
I am not sure, though, if the app in this car is developed by Polestar. The Polestar 2 does not have a proprietary entertainment platform, but bases on Android Automotive. The Spotify app is installed through the Google Play store and the developer is specified to be Spotify AB. Actually, you select the original Spotify app and only choose another device destination to install it. Of course, it will send a modified app to the car, then.
However, user account management seems to be different on Android Automotive. Beside all the general mail accounts which we normally see on Android phones, there are platform users for the car and for Spotify. Such account controls something like syncing, as you ususally know it from mail apps. Anyway, you have logon to the app with your user credentials, as on your smartphone.
Yesterday, there was a new version of the Spotify app available for Android Automotive. Unfortunately, there is no chnage in the sync behaviour of my account.
Hi @Scorgan,
Thank you for keeping in touch and sharing those insights.
As you said previously, it may be right that a larger library could be affecting this function. Since you're able to access the folder's sub categories using another account, you can try creating a new one and transferring your library there.
Although we also suspect the AAOS app is influenced by your larger library, we wouldn't recommend it as it doesn't guarantee success. Please keep in mind that we supply the API and the basic Android Auto functionality, but we can't guarantee everything will work as smoothly as with our native apps for desktop or mobile, although we are constantly tweaking and optimizing our backend to improve compatibility across modern platforms.
If you decide you'd like to try transferring to a new account, our folks from Customer Support can assist you with that. Here is the link.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks for that advise.
I think, I'll give it a try and will play around with another account to understand more of the special behaviour, before transferring my original account. Maybe, I'll get a better idea about the limits, then.
Hi @Scorgan,
Sure, take your time to try it and if you have questions or need anything else, just let us know.
Have a good one 🙂
Hello,
I am currently experiencing the same issue, are there any resolutions to this issue? With a Polestar 2 as well.
Hi,
unfortunately, I am still facing the same error.
Changing to another account didn't solve the problem.
Even after a few release steps of the Spotify app on Android Automotive AAOS, the issue is still there.
It seems that account synchronisation between the Spotify app on my mobile and in the car doesn't work nicely. I still can't see more than 50 of my stored playlists or artists and "recent" list just randomly shows new entries, even not of locally (car) played items.
No improvement after 2 years.
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
We've forwarded this to the relevant team here at Spotify, however, we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, please make sure to keep your app and devices up-to-date.
Take care,
Thanks for forwarding this one. Hope that the team will investigate a little more with regard to syncing library and history data with the AAOS version of the app.
