Question: With downloading playlists for offline listening, is there any way besides waiting and then testing to know if it's actually downloading? There's no indicator (at least on mobile) that tapping the download button does anything, and a couple of days ago I was in the car listening to one I'd tried to download and the last three or four songs were missing (I'd told it to download and then it was likely HOURS before the wifi got turned off). Does the app have to remain open for it to download properly? Spotify's own help article about offline listening says there should be a green arrow next to things that have downloaded; I've never seen that icon, and yet some things are downloaded.

Hey there @somnomania,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

What you mentioned is odd indeed, so let us illustrate for starters. When you downloaded a playlist, there are some signs for you to know it's downloaded:

So, you'll see a green arrow next to the Explore this playlist feature. That indicates that the playlist is downloaded. Additionally, you'll see a green arrow next to the video indicator/artist's name.

From what you kindly mentioned, we understand you can see those indications, correct? In that sense, we'd recommend you try a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this behavior. You can find out the steps to do it here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • A screenshot of what you see on your side.
  • Does this happen if you open your account in a different mobile device? You can ask for the mobile phone of a friend or a relative to open your account and check.
  • We'd like to know if it's always behaved like that or if this behavior started after a specific event/update.

Keep us in the loop!
