I am using a samsung galaxy S3. While listening to music through spotify, any time my screen goes black or "locks" spotify stops playing music and the whole app seems to close. Everything works fine while the screen is active, but I can not keep touching the screen to keep it active all the time as this is a huge drain on the battery.
Does anyone at all know how to fix this very annoying issue? It esentially renders the app useless.
Here is the trouble shoot template, hope it helps.

Can not play back music while the phone is locked.
Example: Music will be playing, and when the phones screen blacks out due to it being idle or from pressing the lock button, the app stops.

(We need to know what you are doing so we can do the exact same to try and get the same error)
1. Open spotify and play a song
2. Press the lock button or let phone idle till the screen turns off
3. Music continues for asecond or two then stops

Hi. Does this happen when you are streaming from spotify or when listening offline?
In the WiFi settings of your phone, is there an option to not turn WiFi off the when the phone is locked or goes to sleep?

This happens when I stream music or listen to music offline. I have checked my phones WiFi settings and the "turn wifi off when sleep" option is set to off.
What are you listening to the music through?
One other thought.......If you are using Juice Defender or another battery saving app on your android, you might check to see if they are causing this behaviour.
I am just listening to music through standard headphones through the spotify app.
Same problem occurs with and without headphones.
I used to use Greenify to save my battery but i made sure that app ignored Spotify. Just to be safe i uninstalled it and tried spotify again however the same issue seems to be occuring.
I see your device is rooted. Any particular reason why you're still running android ICS on your S3 and not 4.3? I seem to recall a lot of issues like this with the older android version, not limited to spotify.
No reason really. Do you think 4.3 could fix the problem?
I would definitely upgrade to android 4.3.
I took your advice and upgraded my firmware. I am now running cynogenmod which has android 4.2.2 and I no longer have this spotify issue. It must be a 4.1 problem. Thanks for your help.
Great. Enjoy your music 🙂
