Samsung Galaxy S3 - Spotify stops playback of songs when the screen locks.

Samsung Galaxy S3 - Spotify stops playback of songs when the screen locks.

I am using a samsung galaxy S3. While listening to music through spotify, any time my screen goes black or "locks" spotify stops playing music and the whole app seems to close. Everything works fine while the screen is active, but I can not keep touching the screen to keep it active all the time as this is a huge drain on the battery.

Does anyone at all know how to fix this very annoying issue? It esentially renders the app useless.

Here is the trouble shoot template, hope it helps.

Hi. Does this happen when you are streaming from spotify or when listening offline?

In the WiFi settings of your phone, is there an option to not turn WiFi off the when the phone is locked or goes to sleep?

This happens when I stream music or listen to music offline. I have checked my phones WiFi settings and the "turn wifi off when sleep" option is set to off.

What are you listening to the music through?

One other thought.......If you are using Juice Defender or another battery saving app on your android, you might check to see if they are causing this behaviour.

I am just listening to music through standard headphones through the spotify app.

Same problem occurs with and without headphones.

I used to use Greenify to save my battery but i made sure that app ignored Spotify. Just to be safe i uninstalled it and tried spotify again however the same issue seems to be occuring.

I see your device is rooted. Any particular reason why you're still running android ICS on your S3 and not 4.3? I seem to recall a lot of issues like this with the older android version, not limited to spotify.

No reason really. Do you think 4.3 could fix the problem?

I would definitely upgrade to android 4.3.

I took your advice and upgraded my firmware. I am now running cynogenmod which has android 4.2.2 and I no longer have this spotify issue. It must be a 4.1 problem. Thanks for your help.

Great. Enjoy your music 🙂

I have the same issue with my S6 after the most recent update. Ever since then I can listen to music for longer than a few seconds once the screen locks. As soon as I unlock my phone and go back to Spotify, it starts playing again. This happens online and offline, while listening through my phone, car, and headphones. It doesn't matter if it is my downloaded music or a radio station, it still stops. I have tried contacting Spotify and having them troubleshoot with me, and nothing. It still happens. I am almost to the point that I want to cancel my premium account....it is very frustrating.
