I've seen other topics here about shared links not working and they've been closed without action, like this one for example: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Bug-in-sharing-links/td-p/1604500

My friend and I usually share links of songs we like and it used to work flawlessly. She's got an Iphone, although I doubt that has anything to do with this. When I click on her link the Spotify pops up but shows nothing, like I just switched back to the app. The links are definitely broken and I know they used to work without any problems. It's not been working for quite some time now.

Here's an example she sent me today:

On my PC this works just fine. On my phone however it doesn't. Tried in both Chrome and Brave, it just opens the Spotify app as if I switched back to the app myself and it's not re-directing to the shared music.

In the post I mentioned about this very topic the user labelscollected gave a suggested "solution" to the problem; removing everything after the "?" in the url seems to work on my phone in Brave browser(tested). Like this:

However, this is a workaround and not a fix! Please fix your bug for sharing links as it seems to not have been fixed for some time now and it's really annoying! I just found the workaround today on the community page because I was so annoyed about it not working I had to go search for it... I just wonder how many people are affected from this without knowing why or how to work around it.

Haven’t tried on desktop my playlist links aren’t sharing on ISO. I get spam warnings in messages and the URLs are being flaged as spam. I’m only posting mixtapes in the mixtape thread and not sharing the same playlists or posting too often. Seems to be a glitch for embedded links.

I´ve had the same problems on my mobile. Shared links i recieved just open the app but not the track or album.

After deactivating my adblocking Private DNS "dns.adguard.com" in Network & Internet settings, everything was working fine again. So check for adblocking apps or 3rd party settings.

Maybe this is helpful to others too.

Hey folks,

We think this might be happening due to an ad blocker being installed on your device. Can you please confirm if that's the case? If yes, try adding http://api2.branch.io/ to the list of exceptions and let us know if this helps.

I don’t use an ad blocker on my device but I do use private, encrypted and ad blocking DNS servers at home. 

Confirmed that if I switch to 5G it works!

after finally a year. I found the solution to the problem for "my" smartphone "Android" thanks to the puzzle information in this forum. Thanks to all who have contributed. I disabled my DNS blocker in the Android settings. I had manually activated it a long time ago to block ads, but I hadn't connected it to the Spotify problem. I set the DNS to automatic... just to be on the safe side, I started my smartphone... and bang... all Spotify links could be opened.

About a month ago, Spotify links in Messenger have stopped working while on Wifi.  I have to turn off Wifi and re-click the link to get it to work.  If I click the link while on Wifi, it pulls up a blank white screen with only a back arrow.  First it flashes 'open.spotify.com' for not even a second then the screen is blank white.  What happened and how is this fixed?

I'm using the android app with a Pixel 6A on a paid individual plan, and when sent a song link shared by another user (using an iPhone on a similar plan) the app opens, but only to whatever screen it was last on, not to the song in question. Reinstalling didn't make a difference either.

Here's an example of a link that doesn't work:

If I delete the query after the ?, it does open properly.

If I then re-share the song (that the modified URL opens) from my app, I get a link with a different query, but one that also works.

I was apparently length-limited on the initial post, but, for comparison, the link generated by the android app is:

https://open.spotify.com/track/23viowniRLYlZlTn51eHuO?si=pGHg2VsISgyKr1TQgJsfGA&context=spotify%3Aal...

Obviously both are the same, except for the ?si=... query.

So it looks like either the iOS app is generating URLs with malformed queries, or the android app is mishandling them.

(and, yes, the query makes it appear the iOS link is coming from a search while the android one is coming from the album, which complicates the comparison, but still shows there being a problem)

I have the same problem from WhatsApp, when clicking on a Link of the song, it opens Spotify, not the song. Spotify is allowed to open open links in settings. I also deleted the app and installed new one. Still 😞
