My Question or Issue
The Spotify app for Android TV is not working. Songs play for 8 seconds without sound and then skip to the next song, again without sound. Other apps on the TV work fine. I cleared the cache, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, and rebooted the TV, but nothing worked.

My Question or Issue
A company as huge as Spotify is not able to solve a problem that was first noticed back in 2023 is a huge disappointment.
While we try to enjoy the service we are paying for and funny thing, I get reminded to pay for the monthly subscription if my card data is expired, it would be great to have at least some kind of allowance that would make this whole, unconvenient situation better.
You can easily put the responsibility on the users by giving us advices about wifi-ethernet cable settings etc, this is just BS. My service from 1 day to another stopped functioning properly. My internet has nothing to do with it, TV is also updated regularly.
Just stop misleading us with these nonsense info and improve the service I am paying for.
I cannot get Spotify to play for more than a few seconds through Tv Roku stick. I checked app on tv was up to date, cleared cache on my phone App and restarted App
I have the Premium plan. I have an account for over 5 years and I have never had this kind of problem before. The app doesn't run in my Sony Android TV. It just stopped working. I can sign in, see my library etc but when I try to play a song, it just doesn't work. After a few seconds the track changes in a non ordinary fashion and then goes back, again to the previous track without ever actually play the music
My other devices see that the app runs in TV Android. However the app malfunctions, it lugs and it has bugs. I have install it over and.over again but that didn't help
Anyone has the same.problem? What should I do?

Hi! The same problem occured suddenly today on my Android 12 Mi Box. Each track played for 10 seconds then auto skip to another one without any sound. I've tried to reinstall Spotify with no success. But I've discovered that my FTTH routers firmware was automatically updated in the background last night with some Wi-Fi configuration modifications. So I decided to forget and reestablish the TV's box Wi-Fi connection and restart all devices including router. That fixed the issue.
Same problem here with a Xiaomi TV.
There is already a solution?
Hi, I've been having this issue for awhile and just found this page to bring attention. I have a Samsung TV TU700D Series and the Spotify TV app almost never works. Even when I use my phone just to play through. It's the only time I find it skips pretty much every song.
I have an LG OLED55C8PLA tv, software version 05.50.45. Spotify skips songs, plays one song and then plays nothing. I can even navigate Spotify, but cannot make a selection. Been an ongoing issue for several weeks at least.
Spotify version 2024.10.07_6-58a3c92H4.44.1
as for timezoen/date. How about now, yesterday, week before, etc.
I would also add that this site is also a POS, well done for getting so little right.
Hey folks,
Thanks for all the replies and info shared.
Our team continues investigating this behavior. As such, we'd like to check, is this happening over WiFi? Ethernet? Both? Does this happen if you change the internet connection you're using?
If possible, you can create a hotspot from your phones and connect your TVs to it, to see if you notice any difference. Give it a try and let us know if changing the connection makes any difference.
Don't forget to send us the following info:
We'll be on the lookout!

For me it's WiFi. But surely you know that physical transport is not really going to be the problem given the number of reporters on this case. Because if physical transport were a problem that would be a broken router and surely you cannot believe that the number of people reporting this problem all have broken routers, right? Moreover I, like many others here have no problem using Spotify on, say, our Android phones that are using the exact same WiFi as our TVs/Chromecast devices so clearly the problem is not the network.
Does this happen if you change the internet connection you're using?
What do you mean exactly? Are you asking if the problem continues to happen even when we cancel our current Internet provider and sign up with a new one? Surely you don't actually expect anyone here to do that do you? Especially, as above when Spotify works just fine on our current ISP connections on our Android phones and it's just the Android TV app that is having problems.
If possible, you can create a hotspot from your phones and connect your TVs to it, to see if you notice any difference.
But why would this be relevant when Spotify works just fine on our Android phones and it's only Android TV devices that are having problems? Surely basic troubleshooting tells you that with that evidence that the problem has to be with the Android TV app right? When every other variable between Spotify that works and Spotify that doesn't is the same except which Spotify app is being used, that points squarely at the Spotify app on that given device. This is trouble-shooting-101.
- When did this last happen? Please include the exact timestamp including your time zone.
- The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices
- The exact Spotify versions you're running.
I've done all of that before, many times. Obviously you are not using that data so I will not waste my time and repeat it here again.
As an aside, you need to stop using stupid captchas on this forum. They are useless and deprecated. All of the botnets already know how to bypass them and all you are doing by continuing to use them is to frustrate and **bleep** off users. You are not preventing any bots from posting at all.
WAIT! STOP! Spotify: Don't do anything! You seem to have fixed the problem, at least on one of my Chromecasts. Neither seem to skip through the songs in a playlist very quickly, playing none of them.
On one Chromecast, I have perfectly functioning Spotify. On the other, all works except there is no audio. It doesn't skip through the songs quickly playing nothing. It now plays each song from beginning to end but I don't actually hear anything. It's as if the TV is on mute. Obviously it's not. Audio works from any other app on the Chromecast.
So all in all, we have improvement, just not perfection yet.
I had the same problem, no sound and endless skipping of playlist on the android tv app. I solved it in my setup. I have an internet fiber modem/router and behind it a TPlink deco mesh system. This runs in Router mode. Several android/web instances of spotify are running on this mesh network. When changing the Deco system to Acces Point mode (thus expanding the network from the fibermodem/router) the problem dissapeared. Switching back to router mode initiated the problem again. What also worked was connecting the TV with wifi of utp cable to the Deco system when in router mode. My guess is that when running multiple instances of spotify on android devices from one ip adress try to communicate with eachother but are unable to connect to a second layer home network. The plugged in tv on the 1st layer cannot connect to the second layer of the network when it is in router mode, but the 2nd layer do can connect to the 1st.
SOLUTION:
So basically all logged in devices (including the tv) must be on the same network AND in the same ip range.
NOT working:
[ISPMODEM] Android tv is cutoff from the home network due to route mode of layer 2.
| |__ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] other Ip range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 1]
|
|___[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] __ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x] [LAYER 2] ** ROUTER MODE ***
|___________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x]
|___________________________ [Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.178.2.x]
Layer 2 tries can connect to layer 1 but layer 1 cannot cannot to layer 2 -> ERROR! skipping fail etc.
Working:
[ISPMODEM] every device same IP range (router in Acces Point mode)
| |_____ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] Ip range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 1]
|
|________[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] _____ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x] [LAYER 2] *** AP mode
|______________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x]
|______________________________[Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.168.0.x]
Also Working:
[ISPMODEM]
| every device behind the router, same network range
| *** Router Mode ***
|________[ROUTER HOME NETWORK] __ [Phone + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]
|___________________________ [Tablet + spotify] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]
|___________________________ [Printers/PC's etc] IP range eg: 192.168.2.x]
|___________________________ [ANDROID TV/BX + spotify] same range: 192.168.2.x]
Same here.
It seems it connects to my Samsung Q80BA but no with audio, only screen. Additionally, skips song automatically after few seconds.
I have this edition of Spotify: 8.9.86.551 on my android phone.
And is connected via wifi
Hi,
I have the same issue. The only solution that currently worked for me is to connect the TV to a Hot Spot from my mobile.
That is why I believe the source of the problem is in the router.
Since 31st Oct 2024 many PC users including myself are complaing about "Spotify can't play this song right now". Paying a subscription and suddenly can't play what you want - what's the point of continuing the subscription?
Same issue here on my Sony XR-65A95L. Tidal and YouTube Music are working fine, so...
