My Question or Issue
When I use Spotify or other media players, they appear in the Android Media Controls Notification Bar as expected. When I pause music from most other players to move over to another player, those players remain in the Notification Bar. Spotify disappears on the other hand disappears fairly quick and I have to restart the Spotify app to make it appear and control it. How do I get Spotify to stay in this Notification Bar?
Hey! Welcome to Spotify, thanks for getting in touch.
This behavior may be related to background task management settings on Android or the behavior of Spotify itself on the system. Here are some suggestions to try to resolve the issue:
1. Check your Spotify notification settings:
- Open the Spotify app.
- Go to Settings > Notifications.
- Make sure media control notifications are turned on.
2. Allow background operation:
- Access Android Settings.
- Go to Apps > Spotify > Battery.
- Enable the option to allow Spotify to run in the background.
3. Disable Battery Optimization for Spotify:
- In the Battery settings, look for a "Battery Optimization" option and disable it for Spotify. This prevents the system from closing the app in the background to save energy.
4. Check background execution permissions:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Permissions.
- Check that all necessary permissions are enabled, including those to run the app in the background.
5. Update Spotify and Android:
Make sure both the Spotify app and your Android operating system are up to date, as updates can fix this type of issue.
Keep me updated!
Cheers,
ribezaz
I do not see an option in the Spotify App for any media control notifications. I have the latest Android version.
Battery is already unrestricted.
There is no Battery Optimization option
I updated Notification Types to set all as allowed. That seems to be working. I will check for a while to see if it still goes away.
Sorry for the delay in responding. Emails went to Junk.
Thanks.
updating Notification types did not work.
If you can clarify what you meant by Media Control Notifications and Battery Optimization, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Hey @djc2002us,
Thank you for your messages.
Jumping in just to mention that a clean reinstall may also help in this situation. So if you haven't tried before, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article to see if it makes any difference.
If the issue persists, since some devices may limit the usage of some apps while in battery saving/optimization mode, we'd recommend checking out this article from Samsung's support about how to prevent certain apps from going to sleep or deep sleep and setting Spotify as a never sleeping app to see if it makes any difference.
Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks. I tried some of those ideas before without success. I now tried the rest also without success.
Hey there @djc2002us!
Could you check if the Pin media player option, located in your phone's Settings > Sound & vibration > Media is activated? This should cause the media player in the notifications menu to persist for quick access, even if the playback is stopped.
Let us know how it goes 👍
There is no Media selection there or any Pin media player option that I can find anywhere on my Samsung S24 phone.
Thanks for testing 👍
Some android settings may vary depending on the manufacturer. Since you can't find the option there it'd be best to reach out to Samsung so they can assist you further.
Hope this gets sorted out. The Community is here if there's anything else we can assist with.
Take care 💚
Understand. I guess the fact that Spotify does not stay active in the Android Media Controls is a Samsung specific issue.
