My Question or Issue

I tell Spotify to download my offline songs to my SD card.  It does it, and everything is OK for a few days.  Then i notice that Spotify is re-downloading my songs, but to internal storage.  This is a problem because it will max out my internal storage.

I've been in touch with Spotify help, who told me my SD card was probably bad. I didn't agree, but I bought a new one, anyway. Never used it for anything else other than to put it in my phone. Same issue.

My most recent experience is that I downloaded all my songs last week and everything was fine for a few days. Then today I just noticed Spotify is once again downloading all my songs to my internal storage, and i checked Spotify's permissions and the storage permissions were set to "Deny." This is weird because i KNOW they were set to "Allow management of all files" before because I checked it and that's the only way Spotify would have downloaded my files to my SD card in the first place.

Here are some details:

-- downloading almost 6K songs

-- SD card is SanDisk Class 10 500GB. Brand new.

-- Internal storage is 128gb (why pay for internal storage when you can have a lot of external storage for much cheaper?)

-- Spotify and OS are updated to most recent version

-- Not using the SD card for any other apps right now (usually I put my photos on it, too, but I stopped doing that just to see if it was affecting Spotify).

-- i've uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify many times while trying to resolve this.

Spotify Help tells me I may need to delete my account and create a new one. I can't see why that would solve anything.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi @eschurr,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

There are multiple things we can try before taking any drastic measures.

We understand you already reinstalled the app. To start, please run a clean reinstall of the app, this one is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

Also, could you check that there are no cache clearing apps running for Spotify? Keep in mind that even if you didn't install such apps, some devices have them preinstalled.

Keep us posted.

i have done a clean re-install many times.

i am not aware of any cache clearing or battery management apps on my phone.

Hi thee @eschurr,

Thank you for your reply and for the troubleshooting you've done so far.

In this case we suggest that contact our customer support and ask them to remove any possible corrupt device since we can't do it directly from our end. The only thing you have to do after is to download your music offline again.

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Spotify is famous for corrupting SD cards when you set it up to download / keep the offline / downloaded songs, etc on them.
Search the community for keywords such as "sd corrupted", etc and you will find a few topics from people mentioning their frustration about this issue.
I, myself, had bought several SD cards in the past only to have my offline Spotify tracks on them and save some space on the internal storage, but I've given up. All my cards were corrupted by Spotify.

thanks. i have spent hours with Spotify support on this issue. They mostly tell me to buy a new card, reinstall Spotify, etc. No joy.

i have done that many times.

wow. Thanks for pointing this out. This is horrible! Can't believe Spotify hasn't addressed this!

I have exactly the same problem on my Moto G phone. It is really frustrating. Spotify is just burying its head in the sand.

This issue is also prevalent to this day with my Samsung A52 and its 128gb SD card. I'm going to end up switching platforms entirely now, especially since Spotify is increasing pricing for no added benefits. Spotify, you were once god-like, now I scrap you off the bottom of my shoe.
