Spotify what's going on? talk to me, I'm here

Solved!

Spotify what's going on? talk to me, I'm here

Plan

"Premium" because in reality it feel like worst than the Free plan

Country

Canada

Device

Samsung A50

Operating System

Android 11

My Question or Issue

What's going on? I don't want to judge you but clearly there is a problem. I want to help you and the only way it's to understand what's going on.

I love you, it was love at first sight, but now... you are so distant, so silent and cold.

Well let's keep the soap opera bs down.

I do understand that apps have problems but I never seen something like Spotify, years pass and updates float down the river like cold corps, bloated and riddled with diseases.

New update? I was happy long time ago, when things were simple, but after a while they started to become unnecessary, with things I didn't even want or ever use, but that's not the problem, the problem are the bugs that are left eating and digging down the flesh and my very own soul. I feel like a drug addict, new empty updates that give nothing if not cheap flashy trills and bugs that keep making basic things more and more impossible to do.

1 Unable to reboot phone, update app or log out, or I will loose all my downloaded songs in the external memory

2 App lagging, doesn't turn on (even if it has all permits, permanent cache and battery usage), unresponsive (any command, Home, Search, Library etc.)

3 Doesn't hide songs

4 Can't use downloaded songs if offline...

Oh My Effing God... What tha faq it's that?!?!

It's just make no sense.

I loved you, but now you are just like a mean wo/man who want just my money and give back only mid fingers. WHY?!?!

Sorry for the rant now the serious thing

I don't expect that you'll fix all the issue, maybe not even any of them, who knows maybe my phone sucks, maybe there is another evil app that mess with Spotify, or I messed up with my phone settings in a way that only Spotify doesn't work, who... knows...

So I would like to ask you, could you give us some numbers? Like a chart of users by plan and type (media; pc, tablet, phone, brand, not model) so we can see how many have problems and who not? At least I/we can put my/our soul in peace.

Thanks

Hey there @Ian39,

Thanks for reaching out on the Community & for sharing your thoughts with us - we appreciate it!

We would love to help you improve your overall experience with the app and make sure that your concerns are heard. To start, so that we can get a better understanding of the app lagging you're describing, could you send us some more details on what's happening from your end? It would be great if you could let us know if:

  • This happen at any specific points. For example - only in offline mode, when playing a certain playlist, only when connected to speakers, etc.
  • It happens using another internet connection.
  • Clearing cache from the app makes any difference.
  • There's at least least 1GB of free memory/storage on your device.

These details will give us a better view could help us narrow down where the issue lies.

You also mention being unable to hide songs - is it in the Made for You playlists (Daily Mixes, Discover Weekly, etc.) that you're unable to hide songs from? In this case, a clean reinstall may help you. Should you mean another feature, however, feel free to send us more info and we'll see what we can suggest.

On another note, there's currently an issue with playing downloaded content, which is being investigated by our tech folks, which could be related to what you're describing. Feel free to have a look at that thread here and leave your details as well, should it be similar to what you're experiencing.

Also, while we can't give a specific time frame for if or when the concern about external storage will be adjusted, our teams are aware of this behavior. In the meantime, we recommend keeping your app up-to-date.

Hope this helps & cheers!

Good morning Spotify comunity

As I would start my day with some music, as time pass by the air is filled with silence and toughs, should I move out from this app? What other apps there are right now?

I've been a Premium user from day one from 6 years or more, I've seen the days when listening music was a breeze on Spotify and I was able to go beyond my music horizon with a swipe, Spotify widened my music in ways that I can't compare with anything else from my past. Music shops with their LP and CD station to listen new bands were a joy in the long gone time, but was a limited jump to the unknown before the clerks or other customers looked at you with evil eyes. Then there was Internet, a new digital horizon with P2P and youtube, listening new music was easier and free from the comfort of your house, the music library was increasing in ways my shelves and room wouldn't been able to bare if they were CD, cassette or LP, but it was limited in the house. Now with the smartphone and apps I can do the same and more from anywhere and with the added convenience of been able to organize my music with a touch.

I LOVED YOU Spotify, you really made my days and for A LOT of days, you even made me realize how ephemeral are our boundaries, in the past I cherished my albums and listened them over and over without getting ever annoyed, now? It's rare that I listen to an album more than twice, what were my Bands and Singers to go, now are just one of the many, and my direction it's; to unknown and beyond. Do I hate it? no, times change and we are moving in a new horizon were hoarding and fluidity are the normality.

Anyway... the silence and filling sound of the fan of the pc is cumbersome, maybe I should look at the past, I still have my LPs and CDs and P2P seem to be a wise solid and efficient option, bit time consuming but at least I can listen music without bugs, crashes, lags and new features that remind me that I only want to listen music. Simplicity, just what I need, when I need, without noisy interference of new flashy features that doesn't solve any of the overflowing issue that this app it's riddled.

Oh the pain, the pain of it all

Hi Maria,

Plan: Premium

Country: CA

Device: Samsung Galaxy A50

OS: Android 11

Spotify version in settings: 8.9.26.592 (and way before, 3 years span) to 8.9.40.509

As you can see updating the app doesn't fix any issue, it only pile up with new one.

I will answer first at your post

  • This happen at any specific points. For example - only in offline mode, when playing a certain playlist, only when connected to speakers, etc. It happens regardless of playlist, connection or linked device
  • It happens using another internet connection. It happens regardless of what internet connection it's used
  • Clearing cache from the app makes any difference. No difference at all
  • There's at least least 1GB of free memory/storage on your device. Yes, 43 GB free internal, 180GB free external

Issues (all of them happened with different updates, some has been fixed and I will not mention them, while other are piling up, same phone and same android version, problem present regardless of external variables as mentioned above)

  • Unable to hide songs (regardless of play list, album or liked song)
  • Unable to play downloaded song (playlist, album, liked song) in offline mode, 1) At least the app is connected and allowed to cache the data (The app has all rights on the phone and has no limit for battery or cache), aka I have to scroll down all the play list, album and liked song until the app load the image of every single playlist, album and liked song. 2) This happen regardless if the app was used just before in online mode, and regardless of the internet provider or linked device 3) The app doesn't seem to cache properly the data even if there is a cache above 3GB in temporary files
  • Unable to update, reboot or update app without loss of external storage data I tried everything, it's the only app that forced me do several time a factory reset of the phone 1) reinstall app, after full delete of old Spotify data in the phone (as Mod suggestion) 2) factory reset of the phone 3) as number 1 but login out from app before full delete 4) updating app 5) moving app in external storage (it works) rebooting it's possible but external memory has to cache all temporary data, speed should be in theory slower but compared to a never rebooted phone it's way faster than before (only tried recently)
  • Lag, freeze and crashes as usual regardless of internet and linked devices, new updates with new features doesn't seem to be beneficial in an app that has core issues and the fact that i can't reboot the phone doesn't help it either

Older version didn't had this kind of issue regardless of the similar quantity of downloaded data. From my personal experience the introduction of new features (3 years ago) made the app unstable, some issue has been fixed (unable to save sorting preferences, unable to see images on playlist, empty app no songs available, app unable to load and so on, you maybe able to see my posts history)

I do understand the the number of device has increased and it's not easy to stay behind all of them, but why not leave old stable apk?

@Maria,

Unfortunately even moving Spotify app on the external memory doesn't work as espected

  • The phone can be rebooted without loss of downloaded songs
  • The app can't function normally outside the downloaded songs, even if in online mode it act as it was in offline mode, can't load new songs in home page, search it's not working, anything outside the downloaded songs doesn't load or work
  • The app still freeze and lag

So... no solution, I'm slowly moving to the idea of saving my playlist and moving to another app, 3 years past of issue and every updated giving new features that are more than unexciting and useless, while the core of the app it's left rotting has no meaning.

I've tried literally everything (please don't come out with the same old stories, update or clear reinstall, the app it's broken that's it), the only option left would be to buy another phone to hope that it doesn't have the same bugs, but how crazy can be that's the only solution for your app?

A sincerely disappointed Premium user

Spotify do not invest in new fancy useless new features, you'll not going to win the competition with glitter in the eyes while the app can't even work properly, if people move out from your app it's not because other company have more features, but because their app work.

Hello,

Common sense should guide you towards the theory that the issues you are experiencing don’t exist in a silo, and that there is a strong possibility that your device or the software on your device is the source of the issues you’re having.

A generic Google search will show you that (coincidentally) around 3 years ago when Android 11 OS was introduced, there were issues with specifically Samsung devices bugging out apps- including Spotify.

Solutions exist for the issues you’re experiencing, but you seem more intent on sounding off on your disappointment in Spotify in general so this might be some self-fulfilling prophecy happening.

Either way if you want to resolve this hop onto Google and try to muster up an objective search using specific information (not “Spotify began making app changes about 3 years ago and that’s when the problems began”), and I think you’ll discover some daylight on this.

Happy regards,

Hello,

Common sense should be that Spotify once received a ticket with full info of the device should inform the user that the device, brand, model, android version or else it's the source of the issue and not push useless methods that clearly can't solve a known issue, if you know that this device brand, model, android version or else have compatibility issue (I assume you are a user) i guess that Spotify it's already well informed about that.

If you are a Spotify employee kudos to you to come after 3 years and give this illuminating information, if you are just a user, well, you should work for Spotify, clearly you know better than them what's the situation.

If you are correct, clearly there are no solution except moving to another phone, brand, model, version of android, since any other solution given by Spotify employees or the community didn't worked out my boy.

Regarding the rest of your comment I'm not even wasting time to reply, and please don't waste time to write down useless post

your are not helping no one, nor the community, nor Spotify. If you are correct, you actually stated the incompetence of Spotify to provide a service and fully give known information.

Happy regards, dah!

By the way, just noticed your account, didn't know that there were trolls even on Spotify community xD

get a life dude and why not, listen some music so you can chill out xD

Happiest regards xD

PS you made my day dude, usually I come here knowing that I will find no solution or useful answer, but today you made me really have some good laughts 😉

Ian my DUDE!

Dude, don’t assume I’m correct, contact Samsung- or read their message boards or something. That part of the comment was the helpful part my dude! The doing stuff part!

Dude, I hope you figure out how to make Spotify work on your phone. It’s lame that you’re the only one who has this problem and that the internet doesn’t give you some help.

Take care dude,

Mitre I was wondering why you weren't replying, not that I really care about, it was just a moment, anyway to help you out, yes me my phone and few other who knows how many others, I guess I'm alone with half of the Spotify users. Day by day the review on android are always the same song, one star. Take care fella, keep the good work trolling around, I suspect you may work for them and you relief your stress doing this, or maybe you are just a guy with lot of time to waste...

Sincerely who cares

Hi Maria, passing by

occasionally I check android reviews and this forum just to see that nothing changed and that Spotify it's going down the drain.

Guess what, I found a patch and I don't even know how to program. Imagine if Spotify had the same interest to solve a problem outside giving the same old story "a quick reinstall" and similar lazy **bleep** answers.

Well the solution it's fairly easy and I can upload the code to fix the issue, it's such a dumb fix that I wonder how you didn't do in all those years...

Anyway it fixed all issues, at least the one regarding:

Data storage issue, from external to internal

Loss of external data on Booting of phone

Loss of eternal data on Update of app

Hiding song

Requirement of internet to play Offline song

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a way to fix the lag and crash, but at least now I can use the app and my phone.

I’m so proud of you. Glad the fix was so dumb that even you could do it!

Today’s a new day for Ian!

And the same pathetic day for you Mitre, take care looser!

Oh, bummer. A swing and a miss. You were looking for "loser." You were close though man nice try keep it up.

What a piping narcissist.
