Track info can't be read in notifications

Unfortunately, the track info for the current Spotify song playing can't be seen on the notification shade. I have a feeling it is something do with the MIUI 8 ROM, as I recall that when I was on MIUI 7 this was not a problem for Spotify (although it was for some other music players eg Phonograph). Rocket Player doesn't have this issue - the text is white on black.
It seems like the text could be black on black. Does anyone have any idea what could be done?
A clean reinstall does nothing.

I don't have your device to check, but a quick Google gave the following thread in the miui forums... Seems low it's something to do with the theme on your device.

Several other MIUI users have the same problem in this thread.

No themes seem to be able to change the look of the notifications/font colours, so no solution through different themes.

People only seem to have success through using Xposed, which requires rooting the phone which I have been somewhat loath to do. Oh well, I'll see what I can do.
